Seems quite pricey for a 3rd-party lens without an internal motor. Better wait till it gets here so that you can physically try it out.

Wonder wat makes this lens so much more expensive than Tamron 17-50mm

Not sure, the extra 1mm would give a little extra cost, I'm sure it's probably all metal components and build quality.
I was hoping it would be around RM1800 vs the Tamron RM1400 then I would buy it as I can't work with the Tamron build, it's too light for me (I'm rather rough).
Tokina generally has rock solid lenses, really good build quality that can equal the original manufacturers.
I'll be looking forward to testing this lens...if not will keep saving for Nikkor 17-55mm f/2.8!

I guess is very difficult for the price to go below 2k...

Too bad about the price. Hope it will be lower when it arrives here.

Is the price already announced for Malaysia? Btw, Tokina lenses are very good that they come very close to the original brand counterparts.

so did anybody here bought this lens?? i am considering this lens purely due to its fast 2.8 aperture and the zoom range suits my work.... howdy howdy :run_away::run_away:

This thread has been idling for over 2 months. Any updates? Is there any of you guys bought it already? How is it performs head to head with Tamron 17-50 f2.8? or maybe Canon EF-S 17-55 f2.8 IS USM?

After seeing the reviews I'm gonna stick to Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8.
Might change to Sigma though for the HSM!
Or even Nikkor original if they update 17-55mm f/2.8 with VR :D

Agree with ST
looking at the review and the price diff, is not really worth.
If I really need a f/2.8 lens, Tamron 17-50mm will be the one. Further more the filter thread is 67mm which means I can reuse all my filters.
Just want to ask, does Tamron have SC in M'sia? How about Tokina? I doubt they have.
