after the successful launching of D80 .. it seems to me tht nikon is focusing on their entry level DSLR, which i think thts a very good news for the prosumer users who are considering witching to DSLR.
but where are the GOOD news for the existing DSLR user? no news on their higher end DSLR? ;)

I think a D3 or similar should be in the pipeline, it's rumoured to be almost Full Frame (1.1x crop).
I think it's about time for D200s aswell with a few bugs fixed and better noise handling at higher ISO.

Hopefully they'll put out a full-frame D3xxx that can also utilise DX lenses (with crop factor of course). High ISO-noise is still a problem although it does look very good in the D80, with some people favouring it over Canon's 400D.
Oh yeah, more affordable VR lenses and VR-versions of the high end lenses. Definitely hoping for a AFS VR 17-55mm f/2.8....DX or no DX...

Apparently the so-called D3 will be able to utilise DX lenses as well as "full-frame" lenses....maybe through sensor cropping similar to the 2x 6MP, high-speed setting on the D2X.

Wow, that sounds like the best of both worlds, Goji.
Fuji has been offering that option for sometime now  :D
Errr, if no need for DX, then either the 18-35 or 17-35/2.8 will fit the bill :D :D
As for me: DEATH TO DX lenses! lol
Seriously, I don't believe Nikon will come out with a lower/prosumer bod that does away with DX glass. They stand to lose.

Nikon won't go the full-frame anytime soon, they are scare to loose their customers, coz wit full-frame the DX lens will be pretty useless

ithink nikon will come out with the almost fullframe DSLR...its matter of time...they need the consumer level to build the name and revenue first before launching it....

The new lenses Nikon has introduced lately are all non-DX for the consumer market, i.e., 105 VR Micro, 70-300 VR, 55-200 VR. The only DX lens is the 18-55 II as a kit lens for the D40/D40X. I think this is a sign of full frame Nikon coming it's way as there are many excellent full-frame lenses out there, e.g., 17-35 f/2.8, 28-70 f/2.8, 70-200 f/2.8, 200 Micro, 85 f/1.4, 200 f/2, 300 f/2.8, 600 f/4, and many more!

I think the accountants have taken over the decision making! That's why they're following the proven path - make cameras that the masses want and can afford. That's why Nikon has been making record profits over the last 2 years all because of this policy.
Alas hard core enthusiasts like me have not been buying anything for the last 9 months(?) because there's nothing that's worth buying. The rumour of the D3 with full frame got me to call my bank manager so i could increase my O/D just in case the D3 is launched. Alas that never happened. :(

Yes, as there are EF lenses and not EFS (all L = EF)

the problem is, there to to many Nikon user bought the DX lens, when FF comes out they either chuck away those DX unless they still maintain the older ones

Nikon should do what Canon did. Make pro bodies with FF and price them at say RM20,000+. That will put the pro body out of reach for most enthusiasts, so they will stay with the DX. To complement the new pro bodies Nikon should also make top of the line FF lenses so that too will be out of reach of the normal enthusiasts. The bread and butter DSLRs and lenses in DX format will be continually improved as they did now but these should be produced in Thailand to cut costs while the "pro" FF bodies and lenses will be made in Japan. That way Nikon will make everyone happy.

bro noordin... u used so many SHOULDs here... which I agree with you 100%... but SHOULD Nikon 'hear' what you are saying? Nikon users can rant all they want... but.... or do you know them personally and hv special treatment from them? :)

They can't do D3 at very high price. every manufacturer has to get a return on investment that's approved by the top. If too price is too high, no market, no ROI....no go...it would be something near to MKIII

What ever it is, there are now too many DX lenses sold out into the market liao, including to pro users (like the 12-24 and the 17-55). As such, the next D2X replacement or any new pro / semipro boedies ought to be DX and non-DX compatible. Otherwise, many DX lens users will scream at Nikon!
That's what I think.:)

go nikon go.... hope that the nikon will come out with something to match canon and start a price war.... so both side of the user can benefit from it
but do u guys think nikon are heading to the wrong direction with D40 and D40x? by limiting only to be able to use new lens, cos all this while one of the adv of nikon is to be able to use all those old lens
just my 2 sen
but really hope that more model from nikon and more price war with canon :P :drunk:

Looking at the sample ISO6400 shot from canon mrkIII.. I'm worry about the future of Nikon.. :( I can easily imagine the situation when Canon improves the entire EOS line up with the super clean technology.
Competition always brings out the best in product ( and price)..
Hopefully Nikon will launch something interesting soon. If the Nikon only focus on entry level cam, then it won't be too long we high end users both from Nikon and Canon will suffer..

From the non-pro amerture's view Nikon do not need to jump onto the FF bandwagon just for the sake of competition. They must think on improving thier current line of models and lenses. They are still lacking in the production of quality pro lenses like the famed 'L' of Canon and a totally new line of Nikkor AFS primes are long overdued.
