i m attending one conference this coming April.
Is very grand, and we have to wear formal suits with tie ( i hate this especially weather like m'sia) and i would love to shoot some photos. do you think bringing my bulky DSLR looks good? or should i just stick with my PnS? ;)
i think it will be crazy..if my bring my slingshot ...:0.
:D ... or i just hire you guys here to take for me

how important is your attendance to this event ?
If u r some kind of VIP guest where u need to rub shoulders with taukehs, forget abt taking pics...
If u r insignificant, you can be the OP for the day.
Or you can hire me :D

No harm carry a bulky cam if you are just a kay lay fay delegate to the conference. Just carry the cam without any bag. I find it funny when people wear suit with a backpack or sling bag
I always do that when I am just a kay lay fay in a conference.

If possible bring a kit lens with f1.8 or better. You might not want to trigger your flash all the time.

i will bring the 17-50mm why so ? its a mid wide zoom....i can cover wide to zoom level equivalent to 70mm+ with the crop factor factored in
the 50mm is very small u can tuck in your jacket.

if i have 17-50/2.8, i'll definitely bring that one.
50/1.8 for me is not suitable since it has fixed focal length.
speedlight or no speedlight doesnt matter since u r not there for serious photography, u r the guest!! :P
plus it is f/2.8 already.
dSLR just shoot better than PnS.
just go there and enjoy the food... hehe!

If you ask, I will suggest you to bring 1850 2.8 only. Speedlight only if you are shooting in low light, else make full use of available light.

hhmmm... available light eh... but i reckon the light ll be low. ...
pop up, may not be good enuf if i m bringing my 18-50, it be blocked by the lens.
pumping up the iso with lowest f ..... with no flash. :0

For events, flash is a must....just dial down the flash EV to minimise the "flashed" look and retain most of the ambient light...

get the 30mm f1.4.. briliant lens good enough focal length.. n best for indoor low light situation.

not only that.. should boost the iso maintain not too slow shutter speed to get the background/ambience light also freeze the movement of the ppl to avoid ghost image.. :drunk:
dun worry about niose caused by high iso, when the condition bright enough (with the compensation of flash) the noise will not be noticeable.. but beware of your flash.. like gojira said.. reduce the flash compensation.. to get the effect just enough to light the subject and keep the background bright...

See....this is what a forum is for...my advice would have been useless if ykgen didn't mention this. I always forget the increase in ISO...hehehe....Even at ISO 800, as long as the exposure is enough, you'll find little noise in your photos. I've accidentally shot at ISO 800 in well-lit situations and found the noise close to invisible.
