tamron has a lot of good review. I am using one, sharp photos but focusing very slow and noisy, but of course can't compare with AF-S. Tamron definately is a good buy. Have not seen/use tokina before. Try search the new for review of both lens. :)

I'd go for the Tamron out of the 2, or the Sigma 150mm :)

If budget allow, go for Sigma 150mm, more confortable working distance and sure won't regretted. You might ended up with more bugs being catch.:D:D

I think most of the PMer here using SP90. Alot of these macro pictures for insects posted here are SP90's work. as for Tokina 100, If its more expensive compared to SP90, I will go for SP90 as 10mm diff isnt that much. Got better budget, get 150mm sigma... :P

If you don't mind 2nd hand, you might want to look at 2nd hand AF Nikkor 105 f/2.8d......the old one without VR.

ahah.. cause i copied my entire thread from PM to here.. at least here there are friendly ppl who replies me.. thanks all! as far as i see.. tokina's cost 200 more onli.. n according to a review, higher than normal CA with the tokina.. how much is the sigma..? i can't afford the original nikon macro la.. double the price man...:(
Personally, having tried the Tamron, Tokina, Sigma and Nikor, before I finally bought the Tamron, I think the Tamron 90mm is the best you can get pound-for-pound. I think the picture quality you get relative to the $$$ you'll work out is best on the Tamron 90mm IMHO.

Thanks man.. have u tried the nikkor 105mm VR? if u compare with the tamron..? but i think finally i'll just the tamron la.. due to the good reviews n cheap price..:P
I didn't test the Nikkor 105 VR, but I tried the Nikkor 105. As far as I can tell, IQ is the same, Nikkor obviously has better build quality, and VR gives you additional edge, but you have to remember that VR isn't effective as you approach 1:1 ... in fact if I remember correctly, VR doesn't have much effect start from around 1:3 onwards ... so you should note that you won't have any VR when you are shooting bugs and all ... I still think pound for pound, Tamron is the best choice you can get.

i'm using a tokina partly because i found it cheaper than the sp90 from where i'm from but get the sp90 if its cheaper than the tokina.

Initially, it feels like that too for me ... however, after using it for a bit, not anymore. I mean, we aren't using the lens to drive nails into walls, right ?
I'm using a Tamron. So far no complaint with it

I've got the Tamron SP90 already! It's actually quite good.. just tat the barrel extends like twice its size.. other than tat, it's very sharp.. love the lens!about being plasticky or not.. i'm okay with now...:)learning how to use it....

I never use AF as it doesn't work at 1:1 or even close to it, this goes both for the Tamron and the 105VR.
Manual all the way!

Agreed, I found MF is more faster and direct than AF for Macro shooting.
Manual all the way for macro ! For 1:1, I usually extend lens all the way, then just adjust my distance until subject is in focus.
