Cute girl.
It's the shallow DOF. The right eye, though partially obscured by her hand and the candy/toy, is still in focus. But because of her hand + candy/toy, the right portion of the pic looks OOF - due to (lack of) distance to lens.
Lighting lor, or were you trying to capture ambient? Can try rear curtain sync, or bounce it more. Or if using the 1.8, try longer exposure time/slower shutter, but then tripod needed. Or add on slave unit for CLS from the sides :D
Just my thoughts. :D :D

yeah, next time when u want to take a picture of hers. ask/make her to put down her hands. tie her down if she resists hehehe.
DOF is just nice i think.:)

Colour is better. Would have been great if you could throw some light using any white reflector on the face. Cute. :)

thanks alan!
yepp.. it's kinda OOF. I still cant get the hyper-focal concept! :D
rear curtain sync i also dunno what it supposed to do. care to explain? hehe...
actually, the photo a bit underexposed, so i tweaked it a little bit.
very hard to get her to stay still. i was lucky i guess! hehe...
CLS? hehe.. D50 cant support CLS unless using SU-800 which is quite expensive for me.
care to donate?? :D :D

thanks raclette!
tie her down? cannot la. she's my fav niece! hehehehehe..
anyway, i kinda like the hand positioned there la. dunno why. but i like it. hehe..:D
