i had no balls nor guts to clean my sensor yet, so have to resort asking father to do it...cause he does it on the other deegeetal cam.
i use Pec Pads and the liquid stuff i forgot bought in Singapore, oh yea i went to the other forums cleaning class held by venerable mr DA.

for sensor cleaning, i use Eclipse and Pec*Pad. both get from Sg.
for lens, i got the Kodak lens cleaning solution... again is from Sg.
leslie, i can understand ur feeling... first time cleaning, the feeling is like hell and heaven... it makes me shiver, heart beating fast, body temperature up... imagine my first time, i use satay stick, cardboard, lens tissue and cheapo lens liquid.... but not so much now with more proper stuff... :P

The lens is not so important, but can try and keep it clean by always capping the rear element and using Skylight or UV filters for front element.
You should clean your sensor whenever you notice dust, mostly you'll only see it using small aperture (f/11 above).
When you start to see dust in your pictures its time to clean your sensor!

i got giottos cleaning kits. any DIY tips on cleaning the sensor? :?
I recently just got the Eclipse solution and the SensorSwabs (a dozen in a box) from shashinki for a total of RM250. The sensorswabs are the killers, but I'm not really so much a DIY gal :( I'm thinking of reusing those swabs with PecPads later on.

Yah Nikon will usually clean your sensor within 15 mins for free!
If you want to send in for service usually can (clean up any dust in viewfinder etc).

Here's a picture of my dirty sensor before im gonna clean it.
Im gonna be using this thing I bought from Eng Tong called SensorKlear which was made by Lenspen. This is gonna be a dry and contacting method. Keeping my fingers crossed cuz I've never done it before - but what needs to be done must be done!
