I can't believe, it rivals and betters most SLRs in terms of low light performance.

Awesome!

Will post a more comprehensive summary and test shots later.

when i 1st saw this pic at your flickr, i really cannot believe that it is iso1600 from a compact camera.

Too bad... f31d had discontinued!!

so i guess with this Fuji's performance, no need-lah to spend loads of money on the "C MarkIII" anymore.

I'm taking pictures, not printing 30" x 20" fine art canvases for exhibition :)

Dang! Seems better than my D70s! Should have picked one up during my last trip!

Aye miles better than my D70s was no competition, I'd say in some situations it's cleaner than my D200 if I'm not careful with exposure.

But then SLR tends to underexpose which brings more noise, this will overexpose so there's less chance of noise.

Plus it's only 6 megapixels.

Amazing camera really.

The replacement was announced today with 4x zoom, 10megapixels and image stabiliser, f50d.

I tested out the P5K, the result is simply too disappointing on ISO1600 :(

Unfortunately F40 is not the same family as F31d, it's not using SuperCCD.

That's why the noise is quite bad, my pics not that bad until ISO3200!

Will post some crops later to appease the pixel gods.

F50d has been announced though, that's the successor for F31d.

F40fd has a SuperCCD aswell, slightly larger though.

ST, on the contrary, I find it quite difficult to judge on noise based on pic exposed with flash. With flash, my gut feeling is that the shutter speed is at least 1/60s (not too sure for PnS) or higher looking at the sharp background and the person behind the 3 of you. At this shutter speed, the camera normally doesn't have enuff time to capture the shadow details on very underexposed area (or where the flash doesn't reach) and will be thrown off (appears on the leftmost side of the histogram).

I would say if this pic was taken with the slow shutter speed maybe less than 1/20s with flash (slow sync) and the background (natural lighting) is exposed enough to show some details ...maybe then we could judge whether the camera has good noise control on high ISO.

Perhaps my concept is wrong here....hehe....please do correct me if I'm wrong.
