Taking the Tamron 90mm macro lens as an example, do I get the same focal length and magnification if I zoom my tele lens to 90mm? Assuming the distance to the subject is the same. Is the 90mm on a macro lens the same as a 90mm on a telezoom lens?

I mean, would I get the same resulting picture (in terms of scale, not the exposure and technicalities) if I took one with the macro lens and another one with the tele lens zoomed to 90mm?

:?

Can make out what I'm trying to ask ah?

Yes it's the same, you'll get the same picture you can test it out.

Just make sure the the object is beyond the telephoto lenses minimum focal distance (MFD).

The reason the Tamron can do macro is because of it's close focusing ability.

If you shoot 2 things 20 ft away, one with Tamron 90mm and one with 70-300mm at 90mm they will be exactly the same.

The focal markings on the telephoto might not be exact though.

The only difference will be sharpeness, contrast and colour (the tamron will be sharper of course).
