Im using a battery grip with my 350D.
Its not by Canon but by an OEM manufaturer labelled OPTEKA.
Its been providing what it needs to provide, reliably... and Ive been more than pleased with it. :)

May I know how much you bought it?

I heard the OEM battery grip shutter button does not focus. Just allow you to shoot. I could be wrong, you might need to double confirm on this, willty.

cant remember liao lo. but if im not mistaken it should be just slightly below rm200. i got it from amazon.com though.

the OPTEKA shutter button works exactly like how the shutter button on the body is. half press to focus, and full press to shoot. its got the scroller to adjust apertures and shutter speed (in Av and Tv modes)

I just got myself a Canon battery grip, and after charging my battery and putting it in, the battery meter shows that it's only half charged, is it because I'm using only one battery at the moment? Or is there something faulty with the grip or my battery? :?

Something is not right here.
1. Clean your battery grip contact points,
2. Make sure you put the battery in the correct slot in the magazine. One slot is for single battery and the other slot is for second battery.
Hope this help.

It should show full charged (provided you battery is fully charged)
Mine even though 1 battery inserted it, shows full.

eh, got different slot one ar, if I put it in the second battery slot what will happen? I just recharged it full last night, and when I used it just now, I think it only lasted like 10 minutes then the camera asked me to change my battery, recharging it again now :(
Is it something wrong with my battery or the grip? Oh, will my battery run out of power faster if I leave the battery grip on all the time? Or just on it when I need to use it? :?

Yes, got different slot one.
One slot for first battery and the other slot for second battery.
I was told that if I use one battery only, make sure put into the correct slot.
If your fully charged battery can last longer in the camera without the battery grip, then there is something wrong with the battery grip.

I'm a bit confused, you mean the battery life should be longer with the battery grip on?
I put in the left slot, which has two battery icons, that's the correct slot? Or is it the slot on the right which has only one battery icon? :run_away:

No, the battery life will not be longer when you use it on a battery grip.
You put it on the wrong slot.
The slot with two battery icons is meant for the second battery.
If you are using only one battery, put it on the slot with one battery icon.

Not sure yet. You have to test it first. If you put the battery into the correct slot and it still drained out fast, then the battery grip is not so normal.:)

Make sure you clear all the contact points on the battery and inside the battery grip, you can do it with a little bit of alcohol and a cotton bud.

do I still need to clear the contact points even if it's brand new? I just bought it on Saturday.
Normally how long would the battery last without the grip?

Better to clean the contact points before you use. No harm doing this step.;)
The battery should last the same time as you use it on the camera, depending on the way you shoot.

I see, I'll go clean the points tonight, what way of shooting drains it faster?

If you want the battery to drain faster::D
1. use the builtin flash often
2. after every shot you took, you check the photo by zooming in and out (known as chimping)
