How about a list Tamron's lense that compatible to D40?
I heard from main distributor at KL Photo Fest that non of Tamron's lenses are D40 compatible.
I tot getting SP 90.
Tamron had no any lens that can AF with D40. Only Nikon AF-S and Sigma HSM can. See if in future Tamron will come out the in-lens motor.

i have the Tamron AF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di LD Macro Model A17NII mounted on my D40. it is made in china. the quality can say ok. sharpness cannot compare to nikkor lens but to me it is still acceptable. but auto focus is slow and a bit noisy, not like the 18-55 nikkor kit lens where AF is quiet and fast. bought rm600 at foto selangor plus kenko uv filter add another rm50. this tamron lens got no stabilizer or anything like VR so if you focus at 180 and max 300 it is important to mount your camera on a tripod. i don't put high expectations on this lens and so far i'm happy with what i have.

Hey guys 1 question about sharpness .. u know how people say our kit lens is sharpest at f8 ? Does that mean that it's not sharp AFTER f8 ? like f10 or f32 ... will it still be as sharp ?
And what's the sharpest for the 50mm f1.8 ?

you can check photozone.de for the charts. They provide detailed explanations..

Peak sharpness for most lens is about 2 stop down from wide open, for f/2.8 lens it usually f/5.6 for slower lens it's about f/8.
After f/11 it will get softer due to diffraction and after f/16 will be noticeably soft.
50mm f/1.8 optimum sharpness is at f/4 for center and for border is f/8.

Tamron SP90 can use with D60? I read a lot of ppl say good thing about this lenses... so was wondering if it works with D60...
If not, what comes close to the SP90?

It works but manual focus only, if you want AF you have to get Nikkor 105mm VR AF-S!
Excellent lens...if you can afford it.

Optically about the same, some may even say the Tamron a little sharper at the edges. Colour and contrast the Nikkor slightly better.
You are mostly paying for AF-S, VR and build quality.
If money not a factor of course buy the Nikkor, more versatile and can be used as a portrait lens.

Another suggestion would be the new AFS 60mm. It autofocus with D60, but bear in mind that the minimum focusing distance is shorter than the 105 mm lenses.
This means that if you want to do 1:1 magnification, you must be very near to your subject. Certain insects are easily distracted and may fly away.
hello all..I am very new in dslr..plan to get one dslr for my kick start.
Recently i just fall in love in D60 and i realy like it...But after my find search from other shop that D40,D40X, and the new D60 doesn't have an built-in focus drive motor which means it can auto focus only with lenses which have their own drive motor.
as a beginner can u guys introduce me a cheaper Nikkor lens that can easier to blur the background more, ( depth of field??):eating:
sometimes really confuse cause alot of Nikon lenses in the market ,but due to lack of knowledge and make me sakit kepala..:(
what is the meaning and different of (AF-S and AF-I lenses). ??

I think this might help. Thom Hogan who explains the different lenses
http://www.bythom.com/lensacronyms.htm
AF-I -- An autofocus lens with an Integrated, coreless focus motor (1992). All AF-I lenses are D-type, but some older bodies can't autofocus with them (N60, N8008).
AF-S -- An autofocus lens with a Silent wave, integrated, coreless focus motor (1996). Basically an update to AF-I. Some older bodies can't autofocus with them (N60, N8008). Some newer bodies (D40, D40x) can only autofocus with them.

Best recommendation I can give is 70-300mm VR - it's about RM1900 and has very good image quality. If you shoot portraits at 200mm it'll give lovely bokeh (blurred background).
any feedback or sample shot on this lens? sharpness?

Haha... same-same here... but learn to read up on lens [free on the net!] and oso discuss with fellow foto kakis and learn from the seniors - this headache can go away...
D60 [together with d40 and 40x] are Nikon cameras without the lens motor in the body! Therefore they need the AF-S only lenses. I kena first time bought a AF 70-300 for RM380... for my D40 and realise it cannot AF. :? went back to the shop only to be laughed at by the rest of the staff... he used a D80 !! And the shop had a NO RETURN policy !!!
Other brands like SIGMA must have HSM indicated; or Tamron must have a [N II] indication or it'll only work as a manual focus.

To be exact, D40/X/60 fully support AF-S and AF-I lenses (autofocusing and metering).
