I need a lens for event shooting, the lens I am looking for is a wide zoom lens like Canon EF-S-10-22 F/3.5-4.5 USM (Official Anouncement Price is RM3,290). As what I know from my friend, the said lens will cost me about RM2.5K with very good tensility result.
Meanwhile, one of my friend introduce Tamron SP AF11-18mm F/4.5-5.6 Di II LD Aspherical (IF) and the price is around RM1.5k
Ok, what do your guys think if I choose Tamron (because of the price)? And, any comment to this lens? Will you encourging to just get the original canon lens? I need your guys advise & suggestion.
I had tried Tokina AF 19-35mm 1:3.5-4.5, that is terrible and I will not consider it. The result come out blur and aperture always jam...
Hope to hear from your guys soon.
Thank you!

Im using a SIGMA 10-20mm at the moment and have been very impressed with its build and, image quality. the price it comes at is very very tempting too (cant recall exactly how much but its in the mid RM1k if im not mistaken). The HSM (SIGMA's version of USM) is fast and silent, providing very cool and accurate focusing.
Ive tested both the Canon 10-22mm against this SIGMA and I found I was very much inclined towards this baby... and the more economical price it comes at just pulled me towards it away from the Canon.
Give it a try!

Thanks Jay,
Ok, I will try to get the sigma for test, anyway, I heard some user said that the Sigma coating is a problem after few years, is that right? I haven't use sigma lens, so I know nothing about Sigma...

Tamron 11-18mm is a terrible lens IMHO.
Best two super-wides are Sigma 10-20mm and Tokina 12-24mm.
The Sigma coating will peel off if you use the lens often, but that's the only downside.
Everything else about the lens is fantastic.

Heh... peels shows signs of wear and may be a good thing afterall...
an impression that you shoot consistantly and constantly :P so people might just be impressed. hahaha

Thanks for your comments.... Finally I choose Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 (because of f2.8 ) as my new lens. I think I will try to get the Canon 10-22 or Tokina 12-24 in future as my wide lens, or else, I will get the 5D!

It will be good if you can report on the performance of the Tamron e.g. AF and post some pics here :).

All right, now is the time to write something about my new tamron lens.
SP AF17-50mm F/2.8 XR Di II LD Aspherical [IF] @ RM1,500/=

This baby is solid, and as what the official website said: The SP AF17-50mm F/2.8 is a lightweight, compact, fast standard zoom lens designed exclusively for digital SLR cameras, expanding the product concept of the popular SP AF28-75mm F/2.8 zoom lens.
It is nice in wide and zoom (17-50mm) shooting with sharp enough for me, and the colour is good if compare with tokina that I used before. Well, the focus speed is slow and noisy, it make me think about the strongpoint of canon USM lens.
The angle of View 78°45'-31°11' (APS-C size equivalent) is just nice in dslr, even it can't compare with canon 10-22, but I think that still nice in wide shooting. Also, with 450g weight, it can be very good in traveling shooting.
Now, just let me show some pictures I took by this lens at Redang Island...

Are you sure with the above highlighted??:?:?:?:?
:?
Im thinking of buying a new wide lens, and I have 2 choices for that. I've tried to use the canon lens on my 30D and the pictures came out nicely, but he recommended me the Tamron lens. Since you've bought the tamron lens, can you please tell me the pros, cons, and overall of that lens. And for that price, where did you buy the lens..?
Thanks before...

I suggest you read this:

I wouldn't recommend the Tamron, I'd say it's the worst wide angle available sorry to say.
If you have the budget get the Canon 10-22mm it's a superb lens, if not get the Sigma 10-20mm - also excellent.
I dont think im gonna use 10-20mm wide lens now. What i want actually is a multipurpose lens that can be used to takes portrait, events, or outdoor pictures. That's why I need a 17-50mm range lens. And i have 2 choices for that. canon 17-40mm l series or Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8.
I thinks that range is more suitable for me right now. :D

Agree with ShaolinTiger get the Tamron. But if you have the budget, go for the simply excellent Canon EF-S 17-55 f/2.8. Downside is it will set you aside a good RM3k+
I think the Canon EF-S 17-55 f/2.8 just too expensive for me..
hehehe
Is it worth to keep my EF-S 18-55 kit lens if i buy the tamron lens?

Are you sure with the above highlighted??:?:?:?:?
well, I just copy & paste the information from the pictures properties, so I can't say anything about that. Anyone can explain?
b4ys, I will recommend you this lens as after my redang trip, I found that the lens is achieving my needs, colour, angle, wide, weight & performance is good at this price (RM1500), just, the focusing speed and focusing noise is bad. Well, I had tried Tamron SP AF11-18mm F/4.5-5.6 Di II LD Aspherical (IF) before I buy this lens, I found that the 11-18 is really not good at all (RM1999), sharpness, colour & focusing is lack, so I decided give up the tamron wide & canon wide. Well, what I can do cause canon wide lens can't fit my 10D, so, I will only consider to buy canon wide after I upgraded to 5D or 1D series...
By the way, I get the tamron lens from Johor tamron dealer.
:)
Aite, thanks for the information
By the way, do you know where can i find a good 2nd hand of this tamron lens?
Or a camera shop that is selling good copy of this lens:?:?
I heard that some of tamron build quality isn't good because of its mass production, so the quality control of this lens isn't good.
