Can we use flash or will it be rude and uncaring? :?

noordin, i advise not to use flash. Last year i take part in this race.. in some technical downhill section, the photographer flash my eye.... and i nearly lost control because i could't see anything within the micro second..... so i advise not to take photo with flash. :D

when i reach to the finish line, i don't know who is the photographer...i just curse him like no body business. hahaha... by the way, i'm sure i'm not the only mountain biker in the forum. Any one else would like to share?

Those downhill section you really really need concentration. Some of them are very steep and technical. And Kiara mtb trail used to be narrow. Your flash might disturb the participants. Even though that is no complaint from participant from the past, but photographers always hot topic in biking forum.

Let me share what i had saw in biking forum.
Some photographer, actually run out the line, and spot @ the "hot spot". And it is one of the best line for mountain biker. When they training, they used to be full speed ahead. On the race day they will try 200%. That is where accident happen. especially when cornering.
So, pick up a nice place and try not to block their lining. Especially @ those "switchbacks" - uturn.

But this year, i heard that the trail had been widen due to some reason. (very political so keep it aside)

That is from my experience. But there had no any statement that saying photographer cannot use flash. If you were to use flash, i would advise that not to flash directly to the participant. The uphill is killing. So when they downhilling, they are actually superb tired. Any small disturbance might lead them to slow down or crash.

By the way, i will upload the race map. It from Penghulu Kiara. The one who create most of Kiara Trails. The one in red is the race trail. If i'm free to be there, i can bring you guys to some really technical section. Good to take photograph there.

Cheers!!:rasta::partyon:

It's the small red map, isn't it?

I thought using flash is rude, that's why I asked. But I have seen pictures with flash, so these guys break the rules.

yes uncle noordin, the small one. but not to say they break the rule. I would say it is a negligence and misunderstanding. Because we will never know how the mountain biker feels unless we are one of them before. So, for my experience, you can use flash if they are on some flat "high way" and try to avoid flash if you shooting them in technical section.

i'm busy with my assignment now and hope to rush there later. so dont edit it properly. i'm really sorry about that.

By the way, if you were there later, take more photos please. This year cannot take part. Aiks...

To share abit more, the trail is roughly 2.1 km....and last year my category was 2 laps. I can tell that that is the longest 4 km i ever ride and ever push my bike. hahahaha

Cheers!!

okay....finally found them....some additional info for you guys are going and a more proper map. i hope them helps!!

no flash no good photo, its so simple............. not everyone there got 1Dmk3. i guess they will have to ban photog from the event :(:(

btw its not a lake, we call it a pond, i used to live 100mm from the Pond (parents home)

i use to go there fishing with my playmates, camping, rubber taping, etc

ok i think for the safety of the riders, DO NOT shoot with FLASH directly into thier eyeview. but from the side i think its pretty ok.............
