its not a Pocket Wizard actually, its just a set of normal wireless trigger that u can buy from DigiColor or Direct Photo.

ACTHUNG! : THIS IS FOR EDUCATIONAL PURPOSE ONLY. i WILL NOT RESPONSIBLE IF ANYTHING HAPPEN TO YOU!

I bought a set of "cap ayam" flash wireless trigger at DigiColor. As far as I concerned, the range to trigger is about 20 to 30 feet only.

I will show you how to modified the trigger so u can trigger your flash as far as 200 feet!

Material :

1. The trigger itself

2. A 10 inch solid copper wire (longer is better)

3. Soldering iron and the solder "timah"

How To Make It :

1. Open the trigger using a small electronic screwdriver. Take a look at picture below. The hole is where u solder the copper wire.

2. Solder the copper wire like in the picture below

3. Make a hole on the trigger cap to make the wire go through the cap when u screw it back

4. Screw the cap to the trigger back, and voila!! its done!!

Look at the picture below. The distance from the flash to me is about 180 feet! That is the maximum I can go becoz' my neighbor's dog keep barking and it really scare me off!! I used my 200mm telephoto lens and the focal length is 200mm.. fuh...

I will try to test again how far this trigger can go.

Hope u all enjoy!

cheers mate!

good idea mate u used the copper wire to extend the wireless triggers range the copper wire acts sort of like a antenna to extend its range:D.

My ex co's staff did something like this in West Port to extend the range of the data devices in the gantry cranes but albeit of a different perspective but of same usage but using additional power to boost the signal. Result 1.5km coverage to a 5.0km coverage :D

Good know-how.
Just curious, Does it take more batt power with the modification?
Also, what is the purpose for the modification? The flash cannot fire to that far, if not mistaken. Thanks for sharing the answers.

Don't know about batt power, u can just change it if the battery runs out.

Who said I want to fire flash to subject from 200 feet away? its not about the object distance from the flash, but this modification is all about the transmitter distance to the receiver.

What's the purpose of this modification? hmmm.. As I said before, it act something like a Pocket Wizard, and its your job and creativity to think on how to use it for any purpose..

cheers!

Yup.. in order to receive and transmit further.. u need more power which mean faster battery consumption.. but there is many other factor to take into consideration

with advise on reading other people's post, I modified again the trigger. I put a small radio antenna, look more professional :D :D

I think there is a use for these far away shots.

1) "Kow chai Tui" - paparazzi shots from far.
2) "SURPRISE" element needed when taking shots.
3) Spying?

a high gain antenna would even magnify the range :P but u 're going to get lots of headaches if other signals interfere with the radio and your flash starts firing on its own heh

I bot two. Hoping that I would use 1 transmitter to trigger two flash.

Now there is two version now:

Older Version: PT 04(tm) receiver with RF-04 transmitter
Newer Version: PT 04 receiver with RF-604 transmitter

here's what I've found out.

RF-604 transmitter cannot trigger the older receiver, the PT 04(tm) receiver BUT

with the right channel combination, the Old RF-04 can trigger both old and new receiver!!! :run_away::run_away::run_away::run_away:
