Dear All,
I have a Canon Speedlite 580EX and planning to buy a second flash. Canon Speedlite 580EX or 430EX are just too costly. I saw in Sigma's website that the EF 500 DG Super supports wireless flash and E-TTL II. I wonder will it work with 580EX on master-slave combination where 580EX be the master and EF500 DG super be the slave.

Any Sigma owners would like to commend?

Thank you.

I don't believe it would.

Anyway reliability wise and creativity wise you'd be better off with wireless triggers.

Pocket Wizards of course if you have the budget, if not then China made ones.

Get a couple of second hand Nikon SB28 or similar and you're set!

How does 580EX work with Nikon SB28? Do I control flash manually?

the sigma 500 DG super can be used as a slave or as a master with all canon EX speedlights. currently i am using 580EX II as master & 430EX & sigma 500 DG super as my slaves.
basically, the sigma is a poor man's 580EX. it does everything the 580EX does but its recharge rate is slower, its built feels cheap & it got 2 separate buttons to twist & to swirl the head.
oh, and i also had to send it back for a re-chip 8 days after the warranty expired. the service was good though & i have not faced a single problem since.
get the sigma if u are on a tight budget & do not use a lot of continuous shooting with flash or else get another 580EX.

With the Sigma as slave does it use eTTL or it's just using SU (optically triggered) manual slave?

it can work with E-TTL for CLS. simple optical trigger & china made radio trigger will work too. u just need to set the channel.

Can I set 580EX as master and 500 DG as slave in E-TTL wireless via channel (i.e. A:B - 1:4)?

500DG Super is around the RM700 bracket, +/- rm100..

i looked at this flash quite sometime back, so the pricing might not be accurate loh.

Canon's equivalent of SB28 should be the canon ST-E2 (supports ETTL and ratio unlike china made trigger)

ST-E2 is still infra red though so requires line of site, pocket wizards are best :)
