Dear all,
I can't find a appropriate folder to begin this inquiry here therefore I hope admin don't mind me to post in Nikon folder. I don't mind if you move this thread to appropriate folder later. :)
I intend to buy D-SLR in next 6-8 months and I am inquiring here from your experience on Nikon or Canon is good for me as a starter with a budget of RM2K -RM3K.
So far, I hear these 2 brands are the well known in D-SLR. (Nikon and Canon). Most of my friends are using Nikon D50 and one is using Canon xxx (forgot his model but I knew he is Canon supporter).
Currently I am using compact Digital Nikon L5 during my travel.
Thanks for your experience sharing with me.

IMO, there's is no 1 best model for every one. Maybe there is in terms of technical specifications. To know which one is best for you, go try out your friends' ones and see which you prefer. You can't go wrong with either Nikon or Canon. Some chooses the camera based on hold/grip/feel, some based on lens support, in-camera menu etc etc. At the moment, based on your budget, it's between Canon 350D, 400D, Nikon D40/x and D50 (If you still can find it).

My oponion, get a 2nd hand camera will do. Below are within your budget, plus left extra money for some accesories.
Nikon - D50, D70, D70s.
Canon - 350D, 400D.

I agree with ST and bcteh. A second hand camera is the best start for you.
