Siem Reap is a small town nestled between rice paddies and stretched along the Siem Reap River. It serves as the gateway to the millennium-old temple ruins of the Khmer Empire. Designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, the Angkor Archaeological Park encompasses dozens of temple ruins including the legendary Angkor Wat., Bayon, Banteay Srey.
Visiting passes are sold as
- 1 day : USD20
- 3 days : USD40
- 7 days : USD60
There are many budget guest houses in Siem Reap town. We stayed in Two Dragons Guest house and restaurant. The cost is USD20/day for a room with twin bed. Foods are also good.
ANGKOR WAT ;
Angkor Wat is architecturally and artistically breathtaking. It is a massive three-tiered pyramid crowned by five lotus-like towers rising 65 meters from ground level. Angkor Wat is the centerpiece of any visit to the temples of Angkor.

BANTEAY SREY
Banteay Srey loosely translates to ‘citadel of the women,’ but this is a modern appellation that probably refers to the delicate beauty of the carvings. The walls are densely covered with some of the most beautiful, deep and intricate carvings of any Angkorian temple. The temple's relatively small size, pink sandstone construction and ornate design give it a fairyland ambiance.

BAYON
The giant stone faces of Bayon have become one of the most recognizable images connected to classic Khmer art and architecture.. Bayon was the Jayavarman VII's state-temple and in many ways represents the pinnacle of his massive building campaign.

TA PROHM - THE ANCESTOR BRAHMA (JUNGLE TEMPLE)
Ta Prohm is the undisputed capital of the kingdom of the Trees'. Shrouded in dense jungle the temple of Ta Prohm is ethereal in aspect and conjures up a romantic aura. Fig, banyan and kapok trees spread their gigantic roots over stones, probing walls and terraces apart, as their branches and leaves intertwine to form a roof over the structures. Trunks of trees twist amongst stone pillars.

Finally we went to a village near Kampong Chhnang for river cruise, playing with the local kids and dirty our hands in the rice field.

Very nice shots, I hope to go there again maybe early next year.
Last time I shot with my under-powered Powershot A70, not satisfied with my results, so have to go back again!

I was told the best time to visit is Nov, Dec and probably early of Jan. Do not go in the month of April as it is the hotest period. The temperature can go up as high as 41°C.
It was raining heavily everyday when I was there last week. :(

Yes, the best time to go is end of the year when it is dry and not so hot. Roads can be very dusty though making changing lenses a trying affair.
Beautiful series Cavey. I guess now is off peak season. The last time I was there (end of the year) I could not get a chance to shoot the roots at Ta Phrom 'cos there were way to many tourists. Lost patience and left. :(

Judging from your photos, going to Angkor during the rainy season seems like a good idea. Can get great pix,,, see the nice reflections of the marvels of this world heritage site on the water.

Great pix with very very nice reflections..water is so still,
