Hi guys,
I've finally decided to get the 50mm f/1.8 lens for my D50. I'm thinking prolly tmr so I can test it out later at a bbq party at night. I *think* I heard from a friend that a new version is coming out, not sure. Any final advice before I get it tmr afternoon?
Thanks.

Sorry xcaliber, don't think wanna spend more than wut the new 50mm f/1.8 cost. I'm saving for the Sigma 10-20 and a speedlight.

go for it. 50mm f/1.8 is a good lens.
but since u are getting the Sigma 10-20, i don't think u need to buy the 50mm.
but then, if u got extra hundreds to burn, then it is ok. :)

50mm f/1.8D is a good solid lens, great for low light and sharp from f/2.2 onwards.
Just be careful with controlling the bokeh as it's not very pleasant due to limited elements.

Wondering what do you mean by "not very pleasant"? Mind to share your view on that because I am still learning...

I have made the plunge! (Maybe not a plunge since it's one of the cheapest lens in town) Will try it out tonight!
Anyone can tell me roughly how much faster shutter speed I can go to achieve similiar exposure on my kit lens @ f/3.5? Say if I'd usually need 1/2 second on f/3.5 to have correct exposure, how much shutter speed I can set @ f/1.8 on similiar lighting conditions?

Depending on how many stops from F/3.5 to F/1.8. If 4-stops, then the shutter speed can be increased 4-stops as well.

from f/3.5 to f/1.8 ...should be 2 stops ...as for shutter speed..could be 1/8s.....i could be wrong...

F/1.8 -> F/2.5 -> F/3.5
So. .there are two stops down from F/1.8 to F/3.5
Hence, to achieve equal exposure, you need to set your shutter speed faster by 2 stops:
1/2s -> 1/4s -> 1/8s
So in summary,
F/3.5, s1/2 = F/1.8 s/1.8

RM360 brand new with Nikon warranty. I think the market price ranges between RM350-370, if not mistaken.
