Tagong Grassland--Tibetian Steppes
Our start point was Chengdu, capital of Sichuan Province, China.
Located 113km northwest of Kangding, about 3 - 4 hour drive from Kanding . At an altitude of 3700M, it is dubbed “ The wild west of Sichuan” It's a vast expanse of green meadow surrounded by snow-capped peaks, dotted with Tibetan herdsmen and tents.
I imagined it would be bliss to camp out on the grassland and be consumed by the beauty of its surroundings and count the millions of stars in the night sky…But my guide said, it’s too cold as it’s beginning to snow. My travel mates said I’m crazy…think I’ve have to change travel kaki!!!
Be prepared for long drive out to the mountains. Road conditions surprisingly are pretty good. However, as the road goes winding round the mountains, it can get quite scary at times..could swear that at times , the tyres of our bus was a few cm hanging out of the road shoulders. We could travel for hours on end without any other vehicles in sight.
