Welcome Shirley,

Interesting subject matter, i kinda see what you trying to do, but you need to watch out for the refection when shooting things that shine. Besides just looking at the object you are shooting, consider the secondary picture that is the reflection. If you cannot get out of the reflection when shooting, maybe make your reflection as a focus of the shot.

Lastly, careful with the composition on the sides of the pics...

Besides that, nice try... KEEP SHOOTING...:D

welcome to shutterasia, shirley.
interesting subject u got there. i think eveyone here must at least once use the door-knob as their subject.
i'm guilty as charged as well. hahaha.
i think mr. Freaky already explained all the do and don't when taking this sort of subject.
what left for me say is, be focus with your main subject.
try to leave out those things that are not the main ones.

lastly, i would like to share a door-knob shot that i took during my early age of dSLR.
it is a crap shot but i still want to share it... if u don't mind. hehe.

Good & nice try. Also ensure the focus on the intended subject is spot on. :)

Nice tries, j4shirley! I like the monochrome style. One thing you need to be careful of when you're taking shiny objects like this, is reflection.

I like reflections off shiny surfaces, especially close-ups.

So, #1 is good...I like the contrast of new against/on old, too ... unless you polished it beforehand ! :D

Zumi, your doorknob pic very nice, very sharp, handheld summore ... right out of cam? Good lighting, too ... early days konon :run_away: :D
