shot someone's empty plate during the 16th KLflickr Meet-Up at Izzi's Bukit Bintang.

5330

so does this photo suit for "product photoshoot"?
i mean in term of the composition and the high-key pinch.
i know that it will look better with foods in it.
i know that proper product photoshoot have to be nice and clean (refering to dirty plate & table).
i'm totally n00b in this sort of shots and i'm trying to get as much input as i can.
so any pointers would be nice.
anything, anything at all.

don't worry, i won't take it personally. ;)
but as long as it is constructive.
thanks yo!

hmm i like the lighting here. although its natural lighting, i think its coming from some kinda large window (hey window lighting is always cool!)

pointers to fix on this photo:
1. the vertical line (table edge) is not cool for a food photography. would prefer a negative space filled by the table texture rather than the floor.
2. crop of the knife is somewhat weird. would prefer the knife lined up straight just next to the plate. add a fork for more geometry.
3. careful with the plate crop. composition wise, you would need a more paralell angle cuz now we can see the plate's kinda titled (with its shadows seen at bottom)

good stuff:
1. the additional green of the vege helps on the overall rather dull color tones (white and creamy color tones)
2. and im assuming the chicken bone is a full drumstick - yes... this is cool cuz it shows a minimalistic approach.

at last, finally! i've been waiting for some inputs. :D

FYI, the light does not come from the window.
i shot this around 10PM inside of the Izzi's (Bukit Bintang).
it was actually came from my speedlight that bounced off the white wall.

thanks Jay for the in-depth inputs. i really appreciate it. i really do! :)

jay has already almost said it all :)

One more thing to add, it'd be more balanced to include the top of the plate (like the bottom) as well instead of cropping it.

zumi,
such bounce light is splendid.
this is a very good example of how a big source of bounced light can be really flattering on the subject. just need to be careful of the color of the wall though. :P

i learned the hard way way tho'. there's one time i bounced on white ceiling but the wall was in pink color, and u can know the output already! hahaha... i wasn't aware about it that time. so like i've said. i learned through the hard way! hahahahhaa... thanks again jay! u've been really helpful. :)
