I don't think there's such thing as China made ML-L3 type of remote.
The original is cheap enough, I just sold mine a few days ago for RM50, it's much cheaper in Singapore than here though so if you have any friends over there I suggest you get them to pick one up for you.

im not sure for shops in malaysia but you could find those wireless infrared remote compatible with d50,d70 on ebay.usually much cheaper than ml l3..and some even offer much better range operation than the original.afterall, theres softwares you could put in your pda and emulate the ml l3 function shrough the IR port..
example..here (http://cgi.ebay.com/Wireless-Remote-Shutter-Control-Release-Nikon-D80-D70_W0QQitemZ270154783449QQihZ017QQcategoryZ43443Q QssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)

Ah that's true also, I've seen someone using one of these 'magic' programmable TV remote controls to trigger their camera aswell ;)

Yup i've got mine from ebay last week .. i think it's called OMG or something like ... can control nikon(mll3) and some other canon models ... has integrated flash light, a convinient "snap-on" thinggy to ur camera strap ... so it will be with u all the time ... and also a little mirror for you to bounce the IR so u can activate it from behind ..
The thing is .. even without the mirror .. that controller can activate from behind .. means u dun hav to point in front of the camera .. i dunno how it works but it works :P AND IT'S CHEAP :)

mind me asking,
can this ML-L3 do half shuttle and bulb mode?

I was using omniremote http://www.pacificneotek.com/ in my Sony Clie (PalmOS).
Works ok for D70s... :D
Should work for D50 as well... same signal IMHO.
But now using MC-DC1, found it much easier..

can this ML-L3 do half shuttle and bulb mode?
Don't think so..:?

just found it myself and wanted to post here but saw ur post :D thanks anyway..(the omniremote isnt free is it?..dont have a pda so cant try now)
i found about the omniremote here (http://www.natemc.com/nikontrigger.php)
with the ML L3, the camera will focus n take picture (if AF is on). you could use in bulb mode..1 press to open the mirror, another press to close it. its one of the benefits of using a remote control i think. you dont need to hold the shutter release anymore to do the bulb mode..
