View Full Version : Biggest photographic screw ups...

Some of my biggest mess ups in my photographic journey...

1) when i first started indoor flash photos - using a studio flash system triggered off by my Canon flash only to realize that ETTL's preflash causes the studio flash to be triggered off before the actual shutter release and thus, all my photos turned out black (this was during the film days). it was an important production shoot for a theatrical performance. luckily i had backup photogs that day.

2) nearly tripping over a model while running from one spot to another while shooting a fashion show in a restaurant

What's yours?

Was asked to shoot a birthday party for a friend the first week I got my camera.. Really didn't know how to use it.. Ended up with blur pics and no keepers..

Used the 100-400mm L lens for a portrait shoot. Just testing it out, most pics came out blur

Got a photograph opportunity, immediately clicked my shutter without even knowing I had left the lens cap on

Umm, connecting my camera to a notebook.. Transfer pics, forget to take my camera out.. Wanted to move to another spot, lifted my notebook and walked off.. Didn't know my cam was still connected, it dropped to the ground and got dragged.. Lol :0

Shooting an event at the polo club..the 2nd day after shooting late night I shot the whole day at ISO1200 and didn't understand why my pictures kept overexposing.

D70s didn't show ISO in viewfinder or on top LCD (I blame it on interface design flaw).

Also going on a shoot after changing bags and forgetting to also change the CF cards...so shot whole day with only 1 CF (Had to shoot JPEG only).

Also other stuff like ming, using too long focal length and too slow shutter speed and ending up with all blur shots.

Shooting models and not really understanding DoF and Aperture with 50mm f/1.8D and getting one clear eye and one eye out of focus.

Not bringing any memory cards, haha! Forgetting to change ISO is a common mistake too.

Yes I'd like to add.. I used to wonder why it always got overexposed when I forgot to change my ISO back down to 100... Nowadays, if I have a shoot on day B, I'd predict the settings I'd use on day A

1) Mistakenly assumed i loaded film in my camera (which i did not) and starting firing away only to realise later... why is my crank winding so light....with film loaded it should feel harder..( i use manual film cam)

2) Forgot to bring batteries for flash, had to pay 2x extra to get AA batts, this was in a resort island..

3) Forgot to bring extra battery for digital... end up have to charge battery at a coffeeshop for 1 hour plus and wasted my time

4) Forgot to bring my clamp for the tripod so end tripod lying in the car wasted and this was while i was in JB....on the way to Singapore.

now have to scratch my head to let go this D50 and check pocket for extra money to buy D80!

oh yes, not to forget the classic "forgot to change ISO". :P

Drove all the way from Subang to Sepang for MME 2006. Took 10 shots then battery went flat. I smiled smugly and put in my spare battery. Took another 5 shots before the spare went flat too. I had forgotten to charge both my batteries. :azz: I walked back to my car, got in, banged head on steering five times, then drove home.
