How does it fare compared to Tamron 17-50 f2.8?

According to many reviews in internet, Tammy is sharper than this Sigma. However, sigma has more luxury features like the HSM that focus much faster and silent, and better control of flare.

If I'm not mistaken, Tamron doesn't provide intermal motor focus, which require manual focus for D40 and D40x. Sigma has the internal focus unit, so it is very welcomed by D40 and D40x users.
