Hi everyone,

I just recently bought a D200 body and was thinking of looking about for a 2nd hand lens (I sold my D40 away so I am stuck with my 50mm F1.8 lens :?). I saw a thread selling the old D70s lens, 18-70mm, what should I check when looking around for 2nd hand lenses? I mean besides the usual stuff like scratches, fungus, built, quality (taking test shots). A friend told me that I should always bring a laptop to actually see the results of the photo taken by the lens.

Also was wondering where would be a good place to get the Tamron 17-50mm F2.8 lens? I heard that certain batches produce a "softer" image.

Cheers

Hi Mavik,
Just drop by YL Camera at Pudu Plaza or check out YL at the Buy/Sell section. They sell lots of used lenses.

I'm compiling some info on this, but generally just check it work, can change aperture, can focus accurately, no fungus or scratches.

That'll do.

Rumours about the Tamron lens are 95% user error, lenses are very rarely faulty.

Hi! Good tips ... just to add on ... some brands' lenses tend to sound louder than other when auto focussing; maybe a guide or indicater which? Mechanical or high pitch sound levels ... Just a thought; anyway thanks in advance ... Jason

Thanks, I ordered my Tamron lens from Shashinki and will be receiving it tomorrow :)

scratches on the body of the lens no problem as long as there is no crack on it.

Must look behind the lens screws if there are scratches there, it may be opened so there may be a big problem on the lens.

Drop by FTZ. there are a lot of Nikon lenses going for sale. The best is to check out YL Camera and Keat Camera. You can fondle and try the lens if they have them before deciding. :)
