...whether Krystal is portrayed in B&W or colour. She still is gorgeous. My first foray into B&W for Krystal. Hope you like them.

Doc, stunners as always and the b/w gives added depth.

Wish there was a wee bit more light on her left (right of pic) for #1, just to see her features slightly ... errrr... like #2 :D

Nice pics and good B&W conversion Doc.

The second pic the right eye standing out from the shadow looks a little odd, seen as though the left eye is so dark but it's the right side of the face that's in shadow.

Those pictures are better than the ones in the B&W photography book I am presently reading.

Damn good. (Where the heck is the thumb's up smiley ?) :)

Will look into that and try it out soon. Thanks Alan for you input.

I was careless on that part. I wanted to highlight the smoke coming from the ciggy but highlighted that eye as well. Thanks Gareth.

Thanks Kingsley! I pp-ed these in colour as per usual. Once I was satisfied with the lighting I used Gradient map to convert it into B&W. I also adjusted somewhat using Selective Colours (Black, White and Grey). Then resized and USM. Seems to work eh? :)

I love the 2nd picture the most. The intensity in the eyes does it for me.

Thanks Noordin! Manny asked me to try B&W for that one and that got me started.

I feel the slight lowering of contrast should help...

doc, this is extremely good. very nice & clean. my fave is #2. the smoke really brings out the "umppph" in the photos. :rasta:

p/s: these photos will definitley not helping the "taknak merokok" campaign! hehe....

Nice shots doc! (Hehe)

Smoking is bad for you.. I'd second what ST said about the shadows in the 2nd pic.. But overall - A very dramatic series.. Love your work

Yes, a wee bit after I highlighted the smoke.

Thanks Gojira! The lighting and conrast was good enough for me before I converted them.

ah, dtbh, we meet again, in a different forum. my other usernames with which you are acquainted in the past might have had some references to the practice of medicine, but i assure you i was not attempting to pass off as a medical practitioner. indeed, i have neither the need, nor the inclination, to do so. my practice was in law.

now, back to the business at hand. i should say my pick would be your second image. i like the suggestive intensity of the model's look. there is a certain acuteness, sharpness and urgency in the whole matter of her look as well as of her pose and poise. they were well captured by the photographer.

i am, however, curious about the very squarish crop, and also the rather 'clinical' and 'sterile' atmosphere contributed to, no doubt, in no small part either by the noiselessness of the d200's sensor or by the utilisation of NR filters. perchance, noise and b+w and krystal do go well hand in hand on such a prominent occasion.

Yes, indeed we meet again! Your give-aways are your country and location. :D

I think these were cropped in a ratio of 3 by 4. Given the background of the base file I thought that was the best presentation. You have a valuable point there regarding the noise. I should have left that alone...I routinely reduce the noise for coloured images and since these were my early attempts at B&W, my habit was carried over. Thanks for pointing that out to me and thanks for the nice comments. Appreciated. :)
