I'm contemplating Nik 85 f/1.8 against Tammy SP90 f/2.8 for portraits and event shoots. Putting aside Tammy's macro capability, appreciate your opinions/inputs. A certain popular site mentioned to forget the 85mm and go for the 80-200 f/2.8. The price difference is huge if new but the long zoom's used price is thereabout. Of course when it comes to portability, the fixed lens has an advantage. But let's talk strictly on results.

I'm pretty sure Tamron vs 85mm f/1.8 has been discussed here before.
I own both for the record, the Tamron is not suited for portraits but it is the BEST macro lens you can get for the money.
And the 85mm f/1.8 is excellent for portraiture.

I second ST on that. I have owned both but have kept the 85 f1.8. It's a great portrait lens.
