Who's gonna rock the show?

Personally after seeing ISO5000 shots from the D3 without any processing....and the new range of VRII telephoto lenses, coupled with the wide lenses for FX factor all the way from 14mm at f/2.8....D3 is gonna rock the show!

I think it's like comparing apples & oranges. The two cameras are not even in the same league. :)

Can compare to 1D MKIII if you like, if you find it more even ;)

I'm only comparing 1D MkIII with the D300 because the MkIII is not a full frame. Won't be fair comparing with the D3 as it is a different class altogether and wasn't there some focusing problems with the MkIII?

These are two different beast altogether. One for sports and the other for studio work. If the image quality of the D3 is really what they reported and discussed in forums, I would expect to see more Nikon at future sporting events. Canon has been dominating the sports scene for many years mainly for its IS telephotos lenses, faster AF and low noise sensors. Nikon has planned well to address all these issues with the D3 and new monster VR lenses. It will be interesting to see how major news agencies react.

Nikon might be too late for the party. Major news agencies etc do not abandon and change new systems midway. They've got too much invested in Canon already. The most that N could do is address pent-up demand from existing users clamouring for a FF after so many years being left out. I might have stuck with N if they had introduced a FF 4-5 years ago.

And I understand that the whole team from an English daily went to the light side!

In fact the D3 is a better camera as compared to 1DMkIII but at almost the same price. I think the choice is a no brainer! :p

If the difference in performance is significant, these news agencies will slowly switch esp well paid international news agencies if Canon does not react to the the competition within a reasonable time frame.

I have just read Michael Reichmann's view on Nikon's latest offerings and he is of the opinion that "Nikon looks to be roaring back with a vengeance".

PS - All these competition is good for consumers like us which will ultimately drive down dSLR prices and better features.:partyon:
