Had lunch with some Vietnamese colleagues in the outskirts of Hanoi which tourist will never get to go, for the locals only. enjoy!

looks like quite a heavy meal with those chunky fish blocks! what's the difference between viet & our local steamboat ? :)

Is this at the former stadium converted into a restaurant?

Actually no difference between their steamboat and ours except sometimes they add in "specials" like duck embryo etc.

And their noodles are usually tastier.

the fish... r they supposed to be left around the steamboat to let it cook or they will be added into the boiling soup? quite interesting to see steamboat other than ours...

btw, the first pix... the lady putting chopsticks in her mouth.. nice capture..

Difference is that everything is chunky, not much meat, they have a good diet of fish and losts of vege. They like the fish to be overcooked so much so the flesh comes off and it becomes bland. Its different from here, we like the fish to be just cooked and in slices not chunky. The ingredients are placed around the pan so when the soup boils they just push the good stuff into the soup and boil like pic 3.

Will post more good stuff later in this thread.

Wah..so much food! Eat eat eat! LOL.

I like the steamboat's design with added "food rest" where you can place all the cooked food there. But it bothers me that the same area was also used to place raw food. :0
