i've seen ppl do b&w conversion on macro flowers before and this is not so good conversion to my zero-knowledge eyes.
why? i think the details were lost esp. on the flower on the darker area.
however, this is a good try. perhaps u can post the color version in the "Shutter Fix My Pic (http://http://www.shutterasia.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=30)" section to get more ranges on b&w conversion photos.
good try, and keep it up.... :D

I agree. But clone out the 3 bright spots, they're very distracting.

Flower photography in B&W is really challenging. You need to understand the use of color filters and how they change the shades of tones. Exposure control and developing techniques are very crucial. Most photographers would use a slow film coupled with a 2 bath film development process and also a 2 bath print development process to bring out the details in the flowers. This type of photography suits medium and large format negatives.

Some of the early works of Immogen Cullinham are good examples of flower photography.

Digital desaturation is perhaps not the most favoured technique. Perhaps layering and channel could be used.

Yah I find the flower a little dark, the tonal range a little on the side of shadows.

It's a nice sharp shot though, perhaps let us have a crack in the Fix my pic section?
