After spent a month with my Raynox DCR-250 super macro converter, i have to say this gear is great! Really enjoy using it! One thing 'bothering' me is the 'fixed' working distance of ~100mm between the lense and the subject. Subjects like lizards and butterflies are quite alert and close distance like 100mm very often frighten them away.
Hence i run an experiment too see whether i can make use of my Lumix 1.7x teleconverter (DMW-LT55) to extend the working range. Here are some results :

1) Focal length 135mm(3x zoom), distance 300mm. Just shoot with 'kit' lense.:D, without adding DCR-250 and 1.7x teleconverter.

2) Focal length 135mm, distance 100mm. Added DCR-250. Magnification is ~2.5x; focusing distance limited to ~100mm(4inches).

3) Focal length 135mm, distance 200mm. Added DCR-250 and 1.7x teleconverter. Yeah! focusing distance is doubled from 100mm to 200mm:D! But then the magnification dropped to ~1.8x:(

4) Now i try to 'recover' the magnification to ~2.5x and wish to 'maintain' the 200mm focusing distance :
Focal length 300mm(8x zoom), distance 200mm. Added DCR-250 and 1.7x teleconverter. :?It seems like the magnification is 'recovered', but approximately 30% center of overall photo is sharp:rolleyes::(

5) And I wondering what is the DOF(Depth of Field) under this 'extreme' condition:P. So the subject was slight moved away by 10mm :
Focal length 300mm(8x zoom), distance 210mm. Added DCR-250 and 1.7x teleconverter. Yup! The subject still can be focused on!

6) Here is my experiment setup. Sorry for the poor pic shot by handphone camera;) Btw a 49mm to 55mm step up ring is required to 'connect' the 1.7x teleconverter to the Raynox DCR-250.

Thanks for watching and feel free to give your positive comments!

Ckchowov, just curious, what kind of diffuser do you use for your flash?
