View Full Version : Need Advice From Raw Shooter
I have a question for RAW Image Shooter.
I heard of the advantage of RAW files, I did try a couple of shot on that format.
To my surprise, I cannot open the file in CS2.
The *.NEF file available in open dialog but a message box pops out saying that,
“Could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document”
Am I doing the right thing?

is it a must to change CS2 -> CS3?
you can search and download the camera raw3.7 by using the search engine in adobe side. Or simply google it @ www.google.com

If your camera is ACR 4.2, but not in 3.7 list then you have to upgrade to CS3.
Yeap, I downloaded the file v3.7 for CS2.
Already recheck the plugin location.
Still giving me error.
ST, CS3, not yet try ??

In PS, go to help> About Plug In> Camera Raw.
A dialog will pops out with the version.

Check Adobe site it lists the camera compability list for the ACR version.
http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/cameraraw.html
This is the supported list for ACR 4.2
The newest cameras that are supported by Adobe Camera RAW 3.7 (http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=3587) are
Nikon D40
Pentax K10DAnything after that requires Adobe Photoshop CS3 and ACR 4.2.

I faced the same problem... but thanks to every body here, now I can open my NIKON D50 RAW file already, but I can't save ... even I can,t find any 'save' instruction/icon.... it did mention that my display is set to lower resolution.. is it refer to my camera or in my CS2 program?
Please help me :run_away:
This is how it looks like....

Your display resolution is set too low to show the Open or Save dialogue at the bottom right of the RAW controls.

I had the same experience after loading Nikon software resulting in automatically running Nikon's plug-in, not Adobe's. A solution is to delete from Photoshop's plug-in folder and all subfolders all copies of the "Nikon NEF plugin".
Nikon automatically installs this plug-in in up to two places inside Photoshop's plug-in folder, and both must be deleted.
It overrides the Adobe plug-in. An alternative to the deletion is changing the Nikon plugins' names by adding ~ in front of the Nikon plug-ins names an alphabet or number.

Starship, do you use NIKON Picture Project program for editing any file?

I know Irfanview can open RAW files and save it as TIFF for further editing.
I wonder whether this TIFF conversion by Irfanview still preserve the fidelity of all the RAW settings. Granted, it's not as flexible as having the ability to adjust the RAW settings before conversion, like Photoshop does.

Syahrizal, it seems I can only find my SD drive and forced :( to use Nikon's Picture Project Program (NPPP) to upload from my PNS Nikon camera to PC.
I don't use NPPP for editing as I use mainly PS for editing. Is NPPP good for editing compared to PS ? If not, any idea how I can avoid :D using NPPP to transfer pics to PC ?
Thanks.:)

NPP sucks really, I removed it make sure you remove the plugin from Photoshop folder too or it'll mess up your RAW processing.
