for wireless operation, go for sb600...sb400 cannot go wireless and has to be attached to the hotshoe either directly or through a cable...

get another SB600 your SB800 is already a main unit..

Or if you want get a pair of product flash lights

Like the below

http://www.directphoto.com.my/webshaper/store/viewProd.asp?pkProductItem=435

at 1500 maybe drop already the price i dunno you might want to call DirectPhoto. So as was saying at 1500 i rather get myself a pair of lights than another flash. Up to you.

Dont forget to get a pair of wireless transmitter for this :D only cost around Rm150 or less.

Meantime enjoy :drunk:

kenn yah it's not normal, go back and claim one from them.

Check the box content list in the manual and make sure everything is there (hotshoe stand, 5th battery clip, diffuser and colour gels).

... flashgun compatible with my SB800 CLS ...should i go for... the older SB28 ?

Dewd, I have several SB-26s (with built in optical slave) that I often used with my SB-800 in SU-4 mode. There's no way to mix the flash guns if you want to use it in i-TTL mode (re: CLS).

Even tho I have the SU-800 commander (great for my SB-800 and SB-600), when I do need more lights I have no choice but to use some radio slave to trigger them all.

That tho, excludes the SB-600, as it has no jack or sync terminal to attached it to the radio slave. I hate those mini optical slaves unit that attaches to the bottom of the flash as they are (mostly) unreliable.

Now, back to original question:

Either a SB-600, which you use in conjunction with your SB-800 and your camera internal flash (to trigger them both), or an SB-600 and a SU-800 commander combo, since sometimes when you use the internal flash as trigger, the lights from the internal flash may affect the image if you dont plan to have any frontal lights at all.

I'm using SB26 as slave. Sometimes also used the Metz with a optical slave. Also bought those china made built in slave unit. (Try not to buy though they are cheap. Only 60% reliable.) If you are desperate, then buy to try out. I started off that way years ago.

Yes. My suggestion, An SU-800 and 2 x SB-600.
More than good enuff for 'studio' lighting effect already.

I sometimes use my Panasonic FL 28 (originally for my lumix FZ30) as a slave fill and my SB600 as the main flash. The FL 28 have a optical slave function.

Can you please give me some advise. I have a SB-25. Can it be used together with a SB-800. This SB-25 was during my old film days. Am investing in a new dslr and SB-800 soon.
Thanks

Can the SU-800 trigger the SB-600 in manual mode (no TTL)?

As far as I know, there's no way to optically trigger SB-600 in manual.

Yes both the SU-800 and the SB-800 can trigger the SB-600 in slave mode.

It's not an optical trigger, it's IR.

Optical can be triggered by any light source like a compact cam flash (SU-4 mode on the SB-800).

Go for Ted CLS class and for sure you will not regret spending your money for SU-800 and SB-600..which will cost you around RM1580++...yea lah...studio light also can get with that price..but think of the mobility and space consume...no wire here and there..just a light stand and umbrella..:run_away::D
