When using Nikon D80 in camera flash as commander unit and SB-800 as remote for wireless CLS, how do you disable the in-camera flash?

I have tried to set the built-in flash mode to "--" but still emitting flash light when shutter is pressed...

Is there anyway to overcome this (without add-on SU-800 or SU-4 or black cloth to cover up)?

Many thanks in advance.

p/s: Is it the right forum category to post, Mod pls help to move to appropriate forum, TQ.

This is the downside of using the pop-up flash to trigger, the light it sends out is pre-flashes to trigger the other flashes.

With the contrast ratio so low I don't find the light from the pop-up flash effects anything.

If you really want to cut it out though you can put an IR filter over the pop-up.

This will cut out the visible light but still allow the IR signal through to trigger the flashes.

do they sell that kind of IR filter (got a hotshoe attached)? wat i have come across is people using a piece of black card to cover the in-camera flash!!

I set to -- too & cover with a piece of exposed neg ... I'm sure it doesn't affect exposure ...BUT I often get it registered as a catchlight in the eye
