I have both. I just bought the Metz 58AF on Wednesday but I haven't tested it yet. It's totally compatible with my 1DIII because it has E-TTL as well as Remote E-TTL. The 58 is the guide number and it's the highest of the Metz compact range. What;s great about the 58AF is that it has the built-in fill-in flash. Cool.

Unfortunately I havent tested it yet! no opportunity to try it out. :run_away::run_away:

What is the price difference between the two?
I know the Canon 580EX II is selling at RM1600.

Agree with Noordin on the secondary flash. I have been using an older Metz 44 and the second flash is unmatched by anything that Nikon or Canon has.

The secondary flash on the Metz is unmatched by Nikon or Canon as none of their present flashes have this feature. Nikon used to have a Speedlite with a secondary flash but it was many years ago and it can be hardly found even in the second hand market.

BTW, I misquoted the Metz model that I have - it should be Metz 40.

smokio, I used the Metz on my F801s and F90x. I still use it on my F801s and FM2n. As a matter of fact, I used it on non-ttl auto on my D80 a couple of weeks ago. Still works great but the disadvantage of non-ttl shows.

Back in the days when film rules and Garyfong were non-existent, a Metz with secondary flash was the best thing since TTL. I prefer it over my SB-26 which was then top of the line for Nikon. The advantages of a Metz are mainly the faster recycling time, even coverage and better temperature. I remember the time when the awesome combo of an F90x with MB10, 80-200 f2.8 and Metz will rule the day.
