Great eye contact, but try moving your camera down a bit to include the nose as well! The nose now seems cropped, while the upper white part of the cat could be lessen off as there's nothing much interesting there unless you've managed to capture the details of his hair. Just my 2c :drunk:

hello mr ex-levin,
since u asked for c&c.
i'm in agreement with mr blur on the framing. a little bit more light in the eyes also wouldn't hurt. and optionally perhaps some darkening of the white highlights, more saturation and usm in the green of the eyes. :D

[OOT start] um, it's miss :D:D:D but no worries, i'm all peace [OOT end, back to topic :D]
BTW, I'm PP-idiot but can you actually only do USM in the green of the eyes? How?

Jes' me 2 cents ....
Light seems to be coming from above or slightly from the back of the cat's head, contributing to the shadows in the facial area. Also burned the forehead fur a bit.
Nice for effects, but resultant lack of light in cat's eyes, especially bottom left of pic doesn't help.
Depending on bod and features, if you wanna shoot this close - assuming this pic is 'as is', without cropping - under these conditions, an off-bod slave flash unit would help. But there are limitations, too. :D

Perhaps it's only appropriate that I present some background information related to the shot. I was inside my house while the cat was outside my window. So yeah, the shot was pretty much backlit.
She was fidgetty and didn't keep one position for long. Since I was aiming for a tight shot, I used my 70-300mm Sigma in macro mode (which only works between 200-300mm/f5.6). I only got about 4 shots before she went off gallivanting around the neighbourhood.
I could've used my Sigma 17-70 at max zoom for a sharper take but that would mean I'd have to get rather close...she will definitely turn and leave even before I got halfway (I've tried).
I avoid using the flash since she hates it (which is why I rarely have indoor shots of her). She always turns away when I bring out the camera because of the flash.
Nevertheless, my humble thanks to all comments and criticisms. I'll definitely be attempting similar shots again (hopefully under better circumstances). :) Cheers.

There you have your answer Levin ... just like when i take my fidgety baby's pics, I always try to position myself between him & the window so I can have natural lighting & get some catchlights in his eyes ...
