you might want to consider a bag that doesn't shout that it's a camera bag. try crumpler.... ;)

But everyone/every thief now knows that Crumpler bags contain either nice expensive DSLR gear, or laptop computers. The anonymity factor was lost a couple of years ago IMHO.

Whats bad about it? I'm using my Bagman, million dollar bag lookalike and it works fine. Worried about its quality? Seriousely... I've got a Lowepro Rover II, but I find the quality just the only slightly better.
Overall, I believe its still just as good. If you've not tested one out before, go ahead and test one out pls.

The Initigo Bagman sling bag is every way as good as the Crumpler 5 million dollar home equivalent.
Plus all these manufacturers bags are made in China anyway, so it's a question of testing the quality for yourself, not dismissing a product because of it's origins.

bagman and caseman arethe same. i believe they use caseman for europe market and bagman elsewhere.
the bagman trekka (that can carry laptop as well as dslr) comes in 3 size. shashinki selling for rm259 i think, not sure what size. as a comparison, the big one is selling for sgd88 in orient photo in simlim square singapore. medium one goes for sgd77 and small one sgd66. which size u need depends on ur laptop bag. the med one should fit 14-inch laptop. well padded, just that i have heard comments about the divider being soft, compared to lowepro
or u can get a similar one in the form of aerfeis. direct photo used to sell it, for rm200. the appearance is similar to crumpler hence it's nicer than bagman. but i haven't touch it before so I don't know the quality.
i wanted to buy the bagman from china since it's the cheapest. that was till i found out Lowepro Fastpack 250. More expensive of course. Cheapest you can find in Malaysia is RM350. In Singapore, you can get it for SGD130 or RM299 from Cathay Photo.
My friend will be bringing back my Fastpak next week from US. It's less than US$70 or RM250. Most things in Malaysia are more expensive. I guess one reason is the corruption hehe. Do you know that you can get the Bagman from China for RM84????

Lowepro Offtrail 2, good for casual walkabout bought mine for Rm220 (1 to 10 conversion rate) in Bangkok.
Lowepro Slingshot 300, bought mine at Rm430 at Ampang Park. Good when u need to travel with a lot of lens....
I am not sure lowepro mini trekker classic is selling how much in Malaysia but in Bangkok there is an offer for Rm220.
So far I find that bags and hoya filters is cheaper in Bangkok.... if you are in bangkok for vacation drop by camera shop in MBK center, you can get it cheaper there..
jameslow
01-16-2008, 10:23 PM
bagman also a good bag, i'm little bit brand concious, otherwise, will buy this rather than crumpler.
If you got budget, the Lowepro Slingshot 200 or 300 are still the best, i believe lots of ppl like it, can see everywhere ppl using it. :) due to its too common, i choose Kata Torso T-214, the strap softer and more comfortable, even compare with crumpler.

yeah, its the shop fill with bags hanging. If you take BTS its the same floor that u will entered in which u could see Sony on the right and later on Svenson ice cream on the left. The shop is called fotofile. I believe is 3rd floor. There are 3 fotofile shop at MBK. The 1st floor is fill with used camera and lens. The 3rd one which just newly open is at 5th floor which showcase all the lens, camera. I am now in BKK too :)

Hi Owen07,
Am not an expert, but certain brands are much more trustable compared to others. When shopping around for a bag, don't just look at the country where it comes from, or even the selling price, but look at
a) User testimonials (are they good, bad, excellent?)
b) Warranty given (lifetime? Do they have enough confidence to give you warranty over their connectors and zips? This is as connectors and zips often break the most, and when they do, you don't want your RM 20k worth of camera gear hitting hard on the floor. If you're interested, you could check out Clubsnap (hope it's ok to mention that), whereupon someone mentioned abt their Safrotto brand bag's connector suddenly broke. He's now using a much more decent bag - Lowepro/Kata/ThinkTank/Crumpler/Billingham) :)
c) Purpose of use - Would you anytime in the future need to travel overseas? Most bags wouldn't fit into the Airport regulation. It's fine in Malaysia, but would you take the risk of having your gears thrown into the cargo while you're on your way back from Europe/Japan/etc or so?
d) Ability to look discreet yet presentable - Would the bag be able to look discreet enough not to scream 'Camera inside!' Also, do consider if you could and would want to bring the bag to your office or for meetings.
e) Finally, look at how much gears could fit into a bag for it's size. Some bags are large, but due to design, couldn't fit in much. As photographers, we're always expanding out lenses and gear as and when we could afford it. Would we want to continuously purchase new bags solely on the reason that we didn't purchase the right one?
Cheers!

Thanks, that's helpful. I just wonder how was Fastpack 250 capacity compare to Kata DR-467, but I do love the side opening of Fastpack 250, it just like the Slingshot 200AW, do think Fastpack 250 able to carry tripod too? There's a difference in pricing over both brands mentioned, and seriously, many of us believe it's due to cutting down on using quality materials (as both are China made, and yes, we do know the factories producing them) :chillin::chillin:
If I was you, I would go for the Lowepro, as the extra paid would be justified in the long run.

I have the mid size version of the Kata, 3N1-20. Some would say that bag was over engineer, too much features pack into it which makes is a complicating bag, neither a true sling bag nor a true backpack. Only reason I bought it was cuz it looks better than the Lowepro Slingshot and Fastpack. As for the Primus AW, not sure the price in Malaysia but in Sdyney, it's almost double the price of the Kata. As they say, you get what you pay for. Good luck in deciding..
Cheers,
Alan..

Kata actually does have the higher end range. However, in order to seize market share, they've started the lower end series. :) Do check out mitmivec's post to read more about the DR-467 performance.
Cheers! :)
I think GDC is Kata's high-end series. DPS would often be referred to as lower-end. GDC bags are very well-built. I have the R-101 too, which is built much better all-round compared to the 3N1.
I agree with Leokoo. The Primus would justify its high price tag in the long run. Lowepro's build is almost always impeccable.
