Someone ran off with my Lowepro Mini Trekker while we were doing a model workshop shoot yesterday.
In it was my 70-200mm f/2.8L IS and 85mm f/1.2 L II, Epson P5000 and Epson P2000. >:(
I'll post the serial numbers when I get back today. So be careful if you're being offered these items. Thanks.

How did it happen? Was the model shoot conducted indoor or outdoor? How far was your backpack from you? This situation could happen to any one of us when you get yourself engrossed in a shoot. Surely there must be somone around who may have noticed the incident? Very unfortunate especially when you got such expensive gear inside.

So sorry to hear that, maybe those damn buggers have been monitoring our activity, and looking for an opportunity.
Suggest in future all our shooting activity, everything can be disclosed except location, location should only be disclose to those confirmed photographers.

sweeann: sounds like an idea, but what if there some members who want to drop by at the last minute?

If it is some model shoot with number of photographers limited (whether paid or non-paid) kinda outing, only registered/confirmed photographer or paid photographer should get to know the location, there should not be anyone poping up last minute unless there is a request by the organiser.
If it is some walk-about street shooting style, I guess there is no need to limit the number of photographers, not disclosing the location also makes no sense, I guess we all should all go in groups and have a look out for each other.
Sorry, not intend to hijack the thread.

Location was not publicly disclosed for this shoot I don't believe, if it was the Manny shoot.
Plus if it were anywhere near an organised hit, everyones bags would be gone, not just Noordin's.
Sorry to hear of your loss Noordin, do let us know the serial numbers of all the gear so we can list them here and pass them to Jason and Desmond.
Anyhow it's a strong reminder of everyone to be wary at all times, sometimes we get lost in a shoot, but if you don't have an assistant or someone to watch your bag...keep it at your feet.
Sorry to hear that Noordin.:0

I would say, from now on.. all backpacks , sling backs remain on your respective waist and backs.
Got to pack light and be a lil' creative. Having a friend to keep an eye on your items while you shoot and *touch wood* later still have your equipment stolen would only put everyone in a very uneasy situation.

I agree with you..really very dangerous rite now..
everyone pls dont simply left your belonging behind ...make sure your friends are with you ...to keep an eye on it..
Noordin, I am very sorry for your loss. I normally do not say this but this time I am really pissed...the thief whoever you are, may you burn in hell!!!!!
My bag was just a few feet away from Noordin's. At the beginning of the shoot we were already very careful when we saw "observers" coming in. We had one of the participants staff to stand guard. Unfortunately they had to leave just prior to the end of the shoot. Noordin and I placed our bags at the foot of the stairs where we were shooting. When we realised we were using the stairs Noordin placed his at the pillar just next to the stairs while I placed mine a few feet away next to a parked car. Some participants noticed a stranger in our midst but did not think much of it. A few minutes later the bag was gone...right under our noses!
oh my god :0...sorry to hear that mate.

So sorry to hear that:( I believe the theft must be from someone of photo forum since he know you only carry top gears. You should recall which familiar face is approaching you during the workshop and dissappear right after you discover that.

I doubt that. His was the "most convenient" of the lot, the nearest to the gate.

Sorry to hear your loss Uncle Noordin.
Such despicable act is really really ****ty.
Please do provide us the serials so we all can avoid purchasing these stolen items, and at the same time might be able to trace it down to who knicked them.

Thanks for your kind messages guys. It's one of those unfortunate incidents.
If they were old lenses, I'd say OK it's time to get new ones but they were brand new and I had only used each one twice. Plus a new Epson P5000. Ah well c'est la vie!

It may not be practical to shoulder the backpack with a half-load of gear (as some suggest) and do a model shoot at the same time. And not convenient too . A waist-pouch is alright. Remember a lot of these shoots are done outdoor and we tend to leave our bags and tripods aside except for those we actually need during the shoot. That's when the opportunity arises. Could happen anywhere, anytime. All it takes is just one quick moment and it's gone. Please be extra careful in such a situation. I cannot blame Noordin for his lapse of concentration knowing it could have happened to anyone in his same situation. We just have to learn something from this incident the tough and painful way.

sorry to hear that.. i bet the thief would not dare to sell the items.. instead.. he must be looking for a canon dslr to use them... sigh
sorry to hear that.
really hate this kind of things happened.
hope that camera shop owner notice this.
Uncle Noordin, sorry to hear of your losses. There are a couple of Chinese sayings on such losses: a big fortunate will not come if a small fortunate doesn't go out; lose a fortunate to evade a disaster. Hope they are of some consolences to you for better things to come.
