If anything, this will be a rumour or borak borak thread...

For those who are dissatisfied with their D80 (pun intended :run_away:) hehe, expect to hear an upgraded version of a D80 or probably even the replacement, but more likely the former..

Don't think it will outdo the D300 at all, but perhaps more similar features, and probably using the EXPEED processor..Any guesses?

So far EXPEED has been used in coolpix and D300, D3 series.
I am looking forward for them to apply on the entry level and hobbyist level SLR which are currently (D40x,40, 50,70, 70s,80)

I am very sure they will produce one of those with EXPEED. hopefully it will improve on the noise level and faster shots ! :-D

- currently using D50 and not going to get D80. Will wait for something above D80 and below D300/200. ^_^

I think it's probably not worth it to upgrade from D50 to "something below D300/D200" because D50's noise level is considerably good at its range. You are not getting much if you're upgrading from D50 to D80, probably few extra focus points and probably new image processor. Save money for lenses instead. I believe a worthy upgrade from D50 would definitely be D300/D200 range.

I am waiting for something new from Nikon. hopefully a model between D80 and D300. Expeed expeed expeed !

Current using D50 and some of the limitation is slowly affecting me. no backlighting on the top lcd. no full bracketing function/ button etc etc.

nevertheless i agree with the noise control. its still good at 1600 :-D

I wonder if the upgrade from the D80 would be similar or better than the D200? Time/Obsolence/Technology...Perhaps the flaws of the D80 are addressed in the upcoming version? While it's easy to point to the hundreds, do remember that many pros are rather settled with the D80, 70s, which are already very, very capable and powerful bodies.

Of course the D80 beats the 50 when considering features.. Superior Noise control, # of focus points, ability to add batt grip for vertical shutter, DOF preview button, Wireless commander onbody, Bigger viewing screen & # of pixels in the same sized sensor, just to name the few prominent ones...

To be fair, the D80 is a scaled down version of the D200, except D200 exposures are more accurate than the 80(has a slightly confused metering system, similar to D40), but if you don't compare, both are still very good cameras on their own...
