All expert,
I need advices on the suitable replacement lens for my Canon 350D kit len. The current kit len (EF-S 18-55mm f/3-5-5.6) is like a vaccum cleaner :tongue_roll:, dust is very easily get into the len. Please advice me, canon lens or third party lens, thanks.

Hi lixin, please, no experts here. We're all learning here. :)
I use 350D also, with an EF-S 17-55 f/2.8 IS USM. Very expensive, but I'd say it's worth it. BTW, it's a vacuum cleaner too, according to websites, but so far I do not see any dust yet.
If budget is a concern, go get the Tamron 17-50 f2.8. Believe me, you will appreciate f2.8!
Just my humble 2 sen

Didn't I already reply to this thread? NVM, I'll reply again...
Hi lixin, I'm no experts here, still a learner, but I would like to share my opinion.
I also have the 350D, and in addition to the kit lens, I have the EF 50 mm f1.8 (trust me, it's a good lens), and the EF-S 17-55 f2.8 IS USM. Very expensive lens, but well worth it. The IS saved me in a lot of situations. Hehehe poison!
Alternatively, go for the Tamron 17-50 f2.8. Trust me, the f2.8 is very useful. Besides, it's also reported to be much sharper than the Canon EF-S 17-55 f2.8 IS USM. Happy lens hunting!

If you want an anti-vacuum-lens with reasonable price, try the EF 17-40 f4L

Hi proxiey,
If you read my post carefully, I did not mention that I have the Tamron, I have the EF-S 17-55. But I'm sure you can get the comparison between the Tamron and the kitlens online. Ask Uncle Google.... But if my memory serves me correctly, the Tamron is definitely a better lens than the kit lens. The constant aperture alone is good enough a reason for you to upgrade. Trust me on this, f2.8 is a great feature!

Hey, the Tamron lens is not inferior to the L lenses. In fact some argue that its sharpness beats the EF 17-40 f4.0L lens! :D

Hi lixin, you should first decide what range you want for yourself first before deciding on which lens model/make. Say maybe you're looking for more wide angle landscaping then you can go for 10-20 or 12-24 range. If you enjoy street shooting then probably you should go for bigger zoom range like the Sigma 18-200 (Not sure if Canon has any similiar range) while if you want to take more on close up then I'm sure Canon has a wide range of tele lens (200 to 300mm range is good enough). Lastly if you're just looking for a straight forward replacement for your current range then there's a few to choose from, namely Tamron 17-50 f2.8, Sigma 18-50 f2.8 and some Canon ones I think.
Also, this month's issue of Digital Camera Malaysia magazine has a quick review of a few standard zoom "kit" range lens, you can have a look at it.
p/s sorry not so sure about Canon lens range. Nikon shooter here :p
