dear all sifus,

anyone see this multi coated wide angle converter before? it's 0.5x, 67mm mount, filter size is 82mm. Various brand use for the same product, Carl's, Digital King and etc.

i know someone bought this around RM 400-500 in penang, can advise where can get this in KL/PJ with lower price?

i tried once at the shop in KL Plaza (they asking RM 750, very expensive!), obvious distortion when the shooting area is near, but ok when shoot it from far. it's fun and alternative to wide angle lens.

i slot in to tamron 17-50, the 17mm at focal length, it has become approx 8.5 to 10.2mm (not in 35mm size), minor vignetting apply, can be done in CS3 either clone or crop, when focal length to 50mm, the picture maintain in 50mm without conversion and no vignetting.

when i slot in to 70-300VR, it has become 35mm in focal length 70mm, but not applicable for focal length over 100mm, and i can focus closer, approx 2-3 feet compare with 4.9 feet.

the macro feature also nice for 17-50 lens, about 1:2 like 50mm with reversing ring, but the sharpness can’t compare with true 1:1 macro lens.

is this converter worth buying?

If u buy it for fun(play-play with superwide :P), sure worth the money. Technically i would say it 'downgrade' the image quality of your 17-50 lense.

Yeah it's not really worth it IMHO, unless you are using a fixed lens prosumer cam and you want really wide.

Then you should get the Raynox one, as it's good quality.

Just buy a Sigma 10-20mm and be done with it :)

At RM750 (?) you might as well buy a third party lens.

This wide angle converter only cost around RM250 - 300. Got mine at RM260. A nice little converter to play with. The Sigma 10-20mm is the only way out for ultra wide angle but it's about RM2k, so at RM260 the converter it's a decent buy:p

I've asked a few local popular stores, they offer roughly about the same price. I bought mine from Tarita. Alternatively you can try Foto-Shangri-la or Fotokem. Maybe you can try SA's favourite shops too - J-One & YL Camera :)

I saw this lens going for about RM250 (for 58mm mount), The 72mm Mount is going for about RM450. This was available at a shop in the new IT area behind federal hotel/ next to low yat plaza. That used to be a bowling center.

I am thinking of getting one too for my D40 Kit lens.
