in office no photoshop, first time using gimp to do editing, this software not bad:D

OK, here is the pic i did, crop the space on head, play with level, apply sharpness, and neat image.

because of mixture of cool light and warm light....(ok..ok..i dunno how to adjust WB in jpeg), I opt for B&W and a tighter crop...

Sweet girls! I like the colours so decided to stick with it.

Got rid of the massive headroom and brightened up their faces and enhanced the whites of the eyes and teeth. A bit of unsharped mask too.

Here is the result:

Here's mine, crop out void space at the top, cool down the colour tone a bit, remove red/yellow cast, boost contrast and midtone exposure a bit and very slight sharpen.

bcteh: would help if you could give a more detailed explanation as to why it's ugly.

It look so fake. Looks like plastic eye. Maybe it's due to our monitor differences.

I could see some photo are too dark, some a bit bright.

I'm using 17" LCD here.

Even I wash this photo, it looks a bit different than what I viewed on LCD.

Not easy to fix this pic - especially the diff in color cast on the 2 faces ... little girl's face has a nasty green cast. Derick's approach equalises the diff :)

btw you can do a quick check of your monitor's settings - follow the link in my signature

ok, here's my attempt to this challenge.
i realize it's kinda difficult to edit this one. so i sorta try to note down on what are the things that need fixing *according to my style*. here's a list.

1. The image suffers from a slight blur. Could be bad or good... so we can capitalize on this. Not a problem.
2. Image is under a heavy warm color cast. Not to my liking.
3. I notice the nice smiles, and loving vibe that's flowing thru the photo. So I wanna emphasize on this values and try boost more of it.

A lot of post processing has been thrown into this, so I cant remember the exact stuff, or recipe that I've done. So here it is with some explaination.

766

1. Image was blur. I had to do some USM - not too much, but just enough to bring the eyes and smiles out. And since it has this blur overall with a warm diffused lighting from the curtains, I added gaussian blur. Yerp! Make blur more blurrer! :P Then I selected the center part of the image and slightly reveal more of the original. That way it sorta tricks the eye into believing the face is sharper - cuz it is! as compared to the rest of the areas. :) This feel added to the warmth and loving vibe.
2. I adjusted the color cast, and also some tweaks in levels and curves. Nothing fancy on this. I also did a selective desaturation with primary focus on the skin tones. Basically I wanna achieve something which has a loving theme.
3. To make users focus on the smiles on these faces, I further added a slight vignetting. This is as though there is some kinda light that is focusing on their face.
4. Then I added a border with suitable colors to complete the whole thing.

Hope you like it. Cheers!

Like DK's, Jack2's (quite studio-like) and Jay's.

Hehehheh, i'm learning after all - had thought about gaussian because of overall softness :D

As can be seen, the over-exposed background MUST be reduced as much as possible.

this is my contribution. did nothing much...just some cropping, unsharp mask, brightening up & playing with curves to "cool" image as i found it a little to warm.

:firing: me if there's anything that needs more improvement. cheers!

There was a blade of leaf of the hand bouquet running across the girl's face which I find very distracting. Other than just fixing the colour, saturation and contrast, I think that the distracting blade should have been taken out like below -

Well spotted halee .... :) I still think the color diff betwen the two ladies' faces is a fly in the ointment. But that's just me

my try:
was trying to counter the backlighting and the color balance, plus a little cloning works.

1) Background copy with USM at 300%, 0.8 pixels.
2) Levels and curve adjustments with mask to whiten the teeth and eyes.
3) Colour balance: -74, 0, +4
4) Picture cropped.

Just some simple adjustments, still learning how to post-process Hard to get the WB right. :)

Hehe ..this photo is candid one le ..just post and shoot .. a lot of my relatives in the house. Did not care much of the lighting that time. I still don't know how the green color can get reflect to the face. Maybe from the green grass.
