Hi guys ... i've been reading a book and it is recommending extension tube .. here is why i plan to get 1 :
1) I have an existing 55-200 vr ... if add with extension then i get a long range macro lens for a VERY cheap price compared to a real macro 200mm lens ( if there even is such thing :P )
2) My camera is Nikon D40 ... it seems most macro lens doesn't come with AF right ? Well yea i guess macro we usually use MF but AF does come in handy :P
3) Just no budget hehe
So just wanna ask .. is the quality compared to a real 1:1 macro lens THAT MUCH of a difference ? I would very much appriciate some sample photos from those who are using extension tubes ........
And is there different brand of extension tubes ? I've checked ebay .. some goes to as cheap as .. RM 60 ... would it spoil my camera =.=" haha
edit: I juz looked up a similar thread at the bottom .. some1 sold thier KENKO extension tube for RM 500 ???? omg that's a big difference to my RM 60 from china lol ... but RM 500 ? Can't you buy a real macro lens with that ammount already ?

the RM60 dooesn't have AF.
the Kenko one got AF.
for macro capability, you can try Raynox Macro which is a adapter for 42-52mm i think.
google for it

A real macro (1:1) lens costs at least 3x more than that.

Wah still very expensive =/ geez ... say i'm really desprate for macro ... doesn't mind using MF ( like not shooting bugs, just shoot still macro )... does those china made extension tube spoils the camera ? and how would u guys rate the quality of the photo ? 50% of the real macro lens ?

the china extension tube is a blank empty barrel. doesn't have anything inside.
by having distance between your lens and the camera, it allows you to make nearer focusing. where in another words, you can take bigger photo and voila its a cheap macro

icic .. 1 more concern ... it i stack 3 of them together ... then i put my 55-200 vr f3.5-5.5 to it ... will it break into half ? LOL !! Like very fragile like that leh ... 2 thing combine together lolololol .........
since AF doesnt work .. i assume VR doesn't work as well ? =/

If there's no power connection between your camera body and the lens that ofcourse VR wont work as well. You should see a degradation in image quality with extension tubes as there's no additional glass that the incoming light passes through.
I dont know exactly how much magnification you'll get with the extension tubes, maybe half size, not 1:1 for sure.
The cheapest and easiest route for you is to get something like the raynox, or some closeup filter of that sort.

tamron 90mm is about RM1200 or maybe you can get a 2nd hand about RM900. but not very easy to find ppl selling their macro lenses.
The kenko AF extension tube is about RM500
The emtpy barrel tube is about RM60-100 I think.
Raynox macro 250 is RM200++
So I suggest you get the raynox 250 one if you want to play macro. later you can add on the raynox macro adapter to your real macro lenses and turn it into a super macro.
this way you don't waste any money.

Where did u get the price bro ? Rm200+ is not too bad ... i googled it .. it's sort of like filter ? With glasss and everything i scared it will degrade the quality wor .. empty barrel at least has nth in it

do a search shutterasia, there are some ppl selling. its around that price.
I personally never tried the raynox before. but I heard many recommendation. Its not like the +2 +5 +10 sort of normal crappy filters you find. Its a high grade glass adapter meant for macro. it will boost the magnification of the object.
raynox macro is not a barrel. its a piece of quality glass which attach to the front of your lens. Extension tube is a barrel. :-D

go to www.Flickr.com and search for "Raynox 250"
if you want to do a specific search. type "Raynox 250 1855" (1855 refers to 18-55mm lens)
