View Full Version : Say a little prayer
She will be turning 90 end of the month. I asked her how she wanted to celebrate her birthday and all she wanted was to say a little prayer. This series is dedicated to her. Hope you like them.

Thank you! I have so many keepers for this series that I am confused by them to know which is the best. However this has to be one of my fav among the coloured ones.

Thanks QQ! It is sometimes strange why some shoots come out better in B&W. When I compared the coloured version against this particular B&W I somehow got attracted to this one more.

Thank you so much Deric! Glad you like this one too.
Very nice portraits, doc! Crisp and clear!

Nice shots doc, but again the skin look a little too smooth for me.
Especially when it comes to old people, they don't have such peachy skin with no pores.
Perhaps it's neat image or similar, but for oldies, I'd lay off that step.
The respect of ages comes with the texture of their skin.
Just my dua sen.

Those who have gone thro' Manuel Librodo's workshop will know some of the basic steps. Believe me there are too many steps that were done to taste that it is difficult to describe them. Perhaps we can talk about it when we do meet....:D Thanks!

Your 2 sen noted. No Neat Image was used for the B&W though. Personally I am more interested in the "lines" (wrinkles) than the pores. This lady is IMHO perfect for photography where her face has some many features with their own characters. Like Krystal, it is difficult to get a bad image of her. :D

#4 is so intense for me. Love the age on her face. What experiances she must have gone thru all these 90 yrs. The others r great too.

Thanks DP. Someone once told me that in portraiture the subject must be either very pretty or very old. How true!

My pleasure to share really. I agree with you on shooting the elderly as mentioned in my reply to DPNikon. Having said that not all with wrinkles are good subjects.
Thanks Noruazumi.

Powerful portraiture, Doc.
Personally prefer if not so closely cropped or if the top of her head/scarf was included wholly.
For me, this is one of those where colour outshines and outweighs b/w.
OT, Doc may I have a copy of that girl who had tears rolling down her cheek whilst watching a cartoon? One of the children in that Tmn Megah home for children? I'd like to share that with my wife who works in World Vision. thanks

Yeah the B&W are lovely, the textures of old peoples faces are fascinating, you can really see each year they've lived etched in their expression.

Thanks for you input Alan.
As regards the image of the child pls do go ahead and copy it. It is my honour that you choose to use it. Incidentally I just received a request from a foreign professional artist yesterday to draw #4 in pencil. I am curious to see how that turns out.

Yaeh, like how we determine the age of trees by looking at the rings. :D

Thanks very much, Doc, the honour's ours.
Wow! Hats off to you, Doc; that's quite a privilege - certainly would look good in charcoal, all the best! :D

The B&W conversion in the last pic is excellent. Everything looks right to me, the shadows, highlights and contrast...very nice!
The colour ones are excellent as well....vibrant without being overly saturated....you must share your processing with us!

Sorry I somehow missed your post, Gojira! Thanks for your comments. We can talk about my workflow when we do meet up for TT. :)
I have started a gallery specially for Madam Wee at my pbase site which I'll be updating till her birthday on April 29th. You are welcome to visit it if you like to see more images of her. Incidentally I'll be printing her an album of all the good images of her as a birthday present.
Thanks again Gojira.
