YTL Group recently invited me to Bali to check out their new resort called Spa Village Tembok. They bought over an existing property built by a German architect who had no time nor resources to maintain the place. So YTL bought it over and started extensive renovations. It's located at the northern end of the island, about 2 hrs' drive from the airport. The hotel sent an MPV to pick me up at the airport. The driver, Willy, was kind enough to stop along the way whenever I saw something interesting to shoot.
Entrance to the resort.

The resort has 2 villas facing the beach and about 30 rooms. They were kind enough to put me up in their largest villa reserved for VIPs. It comes with a personal plunge pool, a flat-screen TV and even an iPod player.
How the villa looks like from the outside:

The villa interior looks too good to sleep on. Fortunately I brought along my SB800, umbrella and a remote trigger so I set up this shot very quickly and after that, ran off for a dinner appointment with the Resort Manager.

I discovered later that I was the ONLY guest at the resort so I had the whole place to myself. Yes, it's very new. There were some other journalists from Japan but they didn't stay very long.
Took this shot before I jumped in for a cool dip. In the evenings, they can arrange a 30-minute meditation session whereby u float on a waterbed in the pool, look up at the stars and listen to an iPod playing meditative music. Really cool idea!

From the resort, you can walk along the beach for 5 mins to visit this small temple shrine. BTW the beach is filled with therapeutic black sand from the volcano. It's rather unique to walk on black sand.

The kids from the nearby villages playing on the black sandy beach. Note the "monkeys" in the background... :P

The hotel was kind enough to let their driver take me to a nearby dance school where I observed the kids practising their traditional dances.

looks like your typical YTL resort...:)
hua... I haven't got sufficient time to explore the Northern part of Bali during previous trip. Looks like Bali is my next trip plan.
Astroboy, thanks for sharing. :)

The place is positioned as a spa retreat. The minute u step into the lobby, they wash yr feet and give u a back massage.
The villa I stayed in is USD680. But the std rooms are only USD400 which i think is not ex as it's for 2 pax, 2D/1N package which includes ALL meals and a spa treatment. M'sians can get better rates.

Nice photos there, Pete.
It's worthwhile going if you decide to stay there all day (at the resort) and go around the area since all meals are provided. If you intend to go round Bali, you're better off staying somewhere else.

Thanks. U r right. After my assignment, I moved to Ubud town for a few days to do my own recce and visited some other beautiful resorts like Maya Ubud. The best way is to stay a few days at different locations as the "flavours" are different in various parts of Bali.
