No worries brother...

If you have patience, you can try my new coming Canon 17mm-55mm f/2.8 IS USM lens.

If you cant wait, then go for Tammy lor, lots of 2nd hand out there, buy it first then if dont like, sell it off again. :D

was just talking with ST about T vs N's f2.8s the other day. One major diff is that the T is very much lighter & manageable .... don't know if there's the same weight diff with the C

if i have extra money to burn, i would sell-off my tammy too to get Nikkor 17-55mm f/2.8. to my untrain eyes, the color produced by the tammy a bit washed-out compared to the Nikkor. but the tammy still a good deal esp. for a industry slave like me. ;)

Haha...you bought it yesterday at YL ?
I was there at 12pm to try out the 24mm-105mm L lens but it did not look in a good shape to me, scratches everywhere, but i did try out the lens and its quite alrite, but still hesitated to buy as he did not give me a good bargain.

Anyhow, how much is he offering you the 17-55mm IS USM lens?

I'm using the Tamron too, no problems here :)

Only thing is the AF a bit noisy but picture quality is great, the Nikkor 17-55mm f/2.8 is too bulky and heavy to be practical for me.

Waiting for them to bring out a reduced size with VR then I'll consider it.

If you got budget get the Canon 17-55mm f/2.8 IS - great lens even though it's not L.

hey friend, did u test it at YL before you bought it ???
if on the spot you feel that the quality doesnt match ur taste, why still get it ler ????:P
as far as i know, the lens will give noisy sound when doing a focusing b'coz it doesnt build in USM ma.

if you bought the Canon 17-55mm f2.8 still give u the same thing then how ??? is that your setting on camera or skill set problem ??? :run_away::run_away:

I'm kind of in the same boat as u are...

I bought the Tammy to replace my kit lens, so far... there is not much complain with the pic quality. At least nothing major, that some minor pp can't solve.

My only concern about the Tammy is the AF speed. Which is why I'm saving up for the Canon 17-55mm f2.8 IS USM, though not a L lens. But it has (almost) all the make of a L lens. Minus the red ring, i guess..

HAHAHA.... Shoalin Tiger can take so brilliant photos with his Tammy, so can you...bro swift!!

Just need more practice, lar...;)
Besides, i think you need photo element/ photoshop to enhance some photos too. Its not just only the lens.
You may encounter the same problem using canon lens too.
Slight adjustments are surely recommended.

Besides, you shoot in Jpeg. It will be another story if you shot at RAW.
I learnt this all from the gurus here...haha.
Is this true?

Hi swift, just happened to bump into your post. I might be able to help u a bit. Like you, I also had the same headache, Tammy 17-50 or Canon IS USM 17-55. In the end, I took the advice of a lot of poisoners here; buy the best lens you can afford! :D I bought the Canon.

Don't get me wrong. The Tammy is also a good lens, in fact, a lot of people claimed that its sharpness beats Canon 17-85 IS anytime! (I do not own the 17-85, so I cannot verify that claim) Anyway personally I do not see anything wrong with your picture there. You may have a look at my gallery at http://picasaweb.google.com/jackyyong. Look at the galleries after my purchase of the lens. (e.g. Merdeka, Melaka, Lake Garden). I even wrote my own review (http://www.jackyyong.com/wp/how-good-is-the-ef-s-17-55-mm-f28-is-usm) of the lens.

The things I love about the Canon 17-55 is the speed and IS. Hey, IS alone is good enough a reason for me to buy it over the Tammy, but that's just my opinion. I have shaky hands!

That price really is too high. Contact this guy (http://www.lelong.com.my/store/yghsin) instead. I bought from him at a much lower price than that. Don't ask me for the price here, it's not fair to the seller if I do.

Anyway there was another guy in SA who has compared these two particular lenses too. Seems that these are very hot lenses in the Canon community. Go here (http://www.shutterasia.com/forum/showpost.php?p=29869&postcount=12) if you want to see it.

i have the tammy 17-50mm f2.8 too
been using it to shoot weddings and also other stuff

but im thinking of "upgrading" to EFS 18-55mm lens and see :) what i can do with it.

to those than think by buying the EFS 17-55mm f2.8 lens and your shots are gonna be uber greater than that of the tamron 17-50mm, my advice to you is - go shoot more with that tammy and practice la.... unless of course u get a uber sucky back focus copy of that lens.

Anyway, really appreciate ur guys helping around.
