aka Malaysian Crossback Arowana. Not the best of images but since I like them I thought I'll share with you guys. Taken in ambient aquarium light wide open. Next time I'll use flash.

Thanks Noordin! It is getting better now and is about 22in long. thankfully it does not have drop-eye like so many arowanas.

:D :D Yes more than that when I bought it. I don't know the market value of it now but if there is anyone keen to "adopt" it at my cost I'll part with it. :D

Thanks qq!

amazing shots, guess it is a bit blur.

It was a sudden inspiration to go shoot it. Didn't bother to set up my flash. To get this feeding pose I actually had to throw in a sinking pellet and you can imagine how fast this aggressive fish rushed for the pellet. Hence the blurred image. I'll have a go at it again this time with flash and some worms!

Gorgeous fish, and nice reflections. Using flash on expensive fishes isnt recommended, as I would image. :?

:D :D The catch is, it has improved a lot since I bought it and at cost it can be considered a steal. :D

I have tried it with an umbrella which did not seem to bother it too much. Agree with you - have to do it with care...and fingers crossed! :D

beautiful she:cool:

Thanks and one more for all of you.

All friends?

wow, full grown golden aro....

used to have a red aro, trust me, feeding it, sending it to clinic when sick and lifestock for food is a dreadful thing to do.

Aro are aggresive fish. recalled washing the tank and got bitten by my fish till blood filled in the tank. At the end some fish enthusiast bought it at 3.5K from me.... =P

The process of this fish eating a bull frog is exciting, try it once in a while... like watching freak show... hahaha

Love the last shot!

Looks like a local gold (read $$$$), could have been going for anything between RM3000-RM8000 when bought around 7-10 inches in length. Final shot depicts it as well fed :D

Doc, you are really something...you got it to accept pellets?
:0 :D
This size can fetch RM20,000 easily.

Me prefer discus and other colourfuls :D
For feeding thrills, oscars and tomans for me :D

I've never tried bull frogs but I can imagine the scenario. :D

I used to have a few and this is the only one that I managed to train to take pellets. This is one of the reasons why I have kept this one till now...less messy with pellet.

Yep, market value should be thereabouts. I paid 12k at 10 in!

Thanks sonyalpha. It is actually a dark blue bg. Used PS to make it black.

err, your fish feeds on pallet??? lmao, what happened to the excitement on watching it feed? anyway, there are ways to prevent its eyes dropping downwards. Try not to feed it too much prawns or lil fish. Aro usually swims near surface of the tank. If there is too much prawns or fishies swimming below, it tends to look down more hence u will get a droopy eyed aro~~ for the color, try feeding it centipede. Some fish enthusiast once told me that lifestock such as centipede can bring out the color of the fish. Aside from that, red coloured leaves that changes the color of the water is also a must every now and then.... clear water will make the fish more prone to color loss.

Well, I thought AA grade of aro can fetch till 12K but 10 inches cost 10K+ is abit too much. If you are serious to get aro, i will reckon u to go over Johor district in one of the fish farm. They have tons of fish tank on the farm and requires golf carts to go from one end to another... and their fish is all before retail price with certs.

:)

Those practises you mentioned above are for red arowanas. I got my fish from Xian Leng formally from Batu Pahat now with a centre in Shah Alam. I don't know how to grade them but I got it direct from one of their director's and his recommendation. Being a listed company I suppose I have to pay a premium for it.

Having said that I have many friends who have been conned by many diferrent farms from all over the place, including Johore, and eventhough they came with certs their qualities were overstated. The classic was one who thought he got a bargain when he paid RM6k for a platinum arowana but actually was a (pale) green arowana. I don't know about now but platinum arowanas were hot speciment going for 12-20k/piece. Well, I rather pay a premium for peace of mind.

Thanks for your advice anyhow. I am presently off the market for arowana but in for more photography equipment. :D
