Has anyone here used this lens? Is it a good lens overall in terms of sharpness, build quality? Happen to know at what range is this len's sweet spot?

Soft at wide open... very sharp at all range from f4...

I got the old Non DG... but with HSM... fast focus... see my gallery at www.bobtahar.com

Dunno why... Sigma attract me the most... now I have & had Sigma 28-300, Sigma 18-200 OS and Sigma 70-200 F2.8

... now eyeing the Sigma 18-50 f2.8 and 50-500

bobtahar: why not the 17-70 f2.8 ?

Cos 17-70 is not f/2.8 constant - it's f/2.8-4.

So it's not that useful as the long end is f/4, that's where you need faster shutter speed to avoid handshake!

As the fonze say "exact-a-mundo"...

By the way I also have the Nikkor 18-70mm which I already sold to purchase the Sigma 18-200 OS.

Hah!!!:0...

What is your priority actually?? if you want constant F2.8...

2 best choice currently (cheaper) are Tammy 17-50 & Sig 18-50.
