Errr, just like Unc Noordin encouraged me: JUST SHOOT! Actually, macro is in a way much easier, because you'll notice very quickly whether the framed pic/subject is sharp or not. You'll get the hang of it soon enough. Or for starters, you can try ST's money series :D
Once you get used to using the lens on inanimate objects, insects and others will come easier ... keep on shootin'!

Or go outside and look for dead subjects, and just hantam, haha. Soon you'll learn what works and what doesnt.

Qq, no excuse to not join us for a macro TT next time. :D

I haven't tried it personally myself, but I'm thinking maybe extension tubes + close-up filters??!!!

You get very very close, and using diopters help increase magnification signficantly. Extension tubes will just let you get closer, but some bugs will just scurry away if you get close. My shots are mostly non-crops, unless it's for composition. :)

i think the closest my lens can get is bout 2 inches which i dun think tht is close enuf to see those details..with extension tubes how close can you get?

I dont mind getting close. I find it more stable when i'm nearer to the subject instead of a far zoom lol. or maybe i'm to use to my prosumer camera before this lol...
