My first try at macro photography on insects back in December last year, just after I'd gotten my SB-800.
Very useful to have a good flash for macro shots.
I didn't know much about my cam though only having had it two months and not having shot a lot of pictures, so I shot all the pics at 1/60s which is a bit slow so they aren't pin sharp.
Remember to use a faster shutter speed when doing macro without a tripod kids :) Anyway here's my first insect macro attempt, C&C welcome.

Consider this another lesson in Tamron SP90 poison!
Nice 1st try ST. I note that the butterflies in that farm are not very colourful except for one. I find the bull frogs there are more attractive. :D

Nice and beautiful set you have there ST. I think the sharpest among the lot would be the 2nd shot of the dragonfly. But personal fav would be Dragonfly on Green though. :) Were your SB800 off shoe or on it?

Yah I agree doc, for a butterfly farm I didn't take many shots of butterfly's. Most of them have tattered wings too from flying in captivity, so they don't make for good shots. It's a decent practice ground tho and quite good for Dragonflies in the afternoon. The frogs are nice, but I found it hard to get a good angle as they are so far below the path.
Beautiful set, ST
Thanks alan.

Thanks jay, on-shoe. I'd only had the flash for less than a week when I shot this, so was pretty noob. Using Omnibounce diffuser for these I think at about 30-45 degrees. Need to build a lord-v style macro diffuser soon.
Tack sharp! Beautiful set. :)
Thanks noordin, still can be improved a lot IMHO though. Let's go for a trip to the Butterfly park soon!

Yes I find the flash too harsh, like I said to jay, still quite noob with flash then hehe. Hopefully next time it'll be better. Thanks!
