i followed a friend to a wedding that was held in a church.
it was my first time ever.
she was the main photog while i was only the "kepochi" photog.
since i was the 2nd photog (or maybe 3rd or 4th), so i decided to use 85mm f/2 AiS (thanks to ZhenMing) and take my time.
most of the shots were taken using the 85mm f/2 AiS lens, while some were using Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 on Nikon D200.
i have to shoot without the lights in the church being turned on.
well, actually the fuse for all the lights was blown.
it was a big challenge for me and i think i failed. :(
and so, here are some of my crap shots.
#1 - cute boy covering his face, he is a bit shy tho. :)

#2 - portrait of the boy. a bit OOF due to my lack of skill in manual focusing.

#3 - the bride. i was trying to do some high-key stuffs. not sure if it is even high-key or not.

#4 - forever love!!!

#5 - the wedding in black & white

#6 - the wedding in sephia (which one is better? B&W or sephia?)

i didn't applied sharpening on most of the shots coz i think they looks nice without the sharpness.
some i applied a touch of sharpness to bring out the edges & details on the walls.
so if u have some constructive critics & comments so that i can improve myself, please give some.
i would really appreciate it.
thanks for viewing.
p/s: credit to ZhenMing for let me use his 85mm f/2 AiS lens. and i still haven't return it to him! *paiseh paiseh*

noru,
overall i love the 5/6th shot. would love it better if only its in color mode instead of B&W or sephia. i could only imagine those balloons, and probably the colors merging in on the ceiling. why didnt you use your flashgun?

I love the B&W better. If you look closely, a lot of details are lost in the sepia conversion. I love the angle, great!

converting to b&w/sephia is my last option as i can't seem to tone down the light that came from the big window. i need to look for references on how to it without making the photo looks "cacat". i do in the same boat as you are on the photos in colors.
the reason why i didn't use flashgun coz it has been discussed between my friend & the newly weds way before the ceremony was held. i don't know all the details but that's the idea of the main photog. so i just go along with it. :) thanks jayhan for your insight view.

that's true noordin. i did some extra dodging & burning after the B&W conversion. will take note on that in the future. thanks noordin. :)

What ISO were you shooting at? IMHO, usually even when church lights are turned on, the amount of light isn't enough. I shot some weddings at low light at ISO 800 - 1000 with the Tammy 17-50mm but it took a lot of PP to reduce the noise and to sometimes sharpen the image.
Also if you don't want to sharpen the entire image, you can always do selective sharpening. For people shots, the key is to sharpen the eyes.

i maintain at ISO640. before the lights were out, i can shoot at 1/100 secs which more than enough for me. after the lights were out, i can only shoot somewhere around 1/50 secs to 1/30 secs. so it is a challenge to me. i did tried ISO800 to ISO1600 during the test-shot period, but i find that the color lost was too much for my personal taste. i read something about playing with the exposure compensation (+0.7eV to +1.0eV) to make the noise less visible. i tried but i just can't seem to solve the puzzle. i'm still figuring it out tho'. :?
i did some selective sharpening on the boy's eyes. the original photo is way worse than you are seeing now. i need to practice so that i can manually focus in a split second. i took too long to focus. missed some moments. :(
thanks for the view. really appreciate it. will take note on every single one. :)

Interesting angles and perspective, but I think the photos as a whole needs more work, a good a try.
So, yeah, interesting.

To reduce noise, if you get the exposure right or slightly overexpose the image, less noise will be visible. This is especially true when using the Nikon D200 at ISO 1000 and above :)
But I don't seem to notice any colour reduction on mine. Are you shooting in RAW or JPEG?

usually when i used let's say ISO1000, the color loss due to noise were too much for me. i can't seem to get the exposure that was said to produce less noise. must try and find it. and i shoot in RAW btw. thanks for the tips. :)
